Job Description

This position is within the Intellectual Property Department at Gilead Sciences, reporting to the Filing & Formalities Manager. The IP prosecution team consists of 16 Attorneys and 11 Paralegals. This team comprises high-caliber, reputable, and highly hard-working IP professionals. They are integral to the company’s ability to continue providing therapies to medical areas of unmet needs worldwide.

Specific Responsibilities
- Preparing Declarations, and Assignments for Filing and Formalities Team
- Obtaining signatures for Powers of Attorney, Declarations, and Assignments
- Assisting the filing and formalities paralegal team in preparing and recording Assignments in patent cases
- Preparing and sending order letters to foreign agents for foreign filing
- Obtaining Authentication documents (such as certified copies) as necessary for filing
- Assisting the filing and formalities paralegal team with formatting patent applications
- Arranging necessary translations
- Ordering formal drawings as required
- Filing electronic documents in the IManage legal document management system
- Notarization
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
Paralegal certification is preferred
Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience in US patent prosecution, or 4+ years with an AA Degree or 5 years experience with a High School Diploma (both US and foreign prosecution experience is preferred)
- Two-three years prior experience in patents or IP is preferred
- Some foreign filing experience
- Knowledge of filing in Patent Center
- Experience with ePCT
- Excellent verbal and written English skills
- Notary certification or willingness and ability to obtain Notary
- High proficiency in computer skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe
- Experience with IManage is preferred.
- Organizational skills, effective time management, and attention to detail are required
- Candidates must possess the ability to work well with others in a team setting
Working conditions
- This is a site‑based position requiring a minimum of three (3) days per week onsite in accordance with Gilead’s G.Flex policy
- Business travel is not required.
