A Better Built World

At Miter, we’re on a mission to help construction contractors build with confidence. If we’re successful, we’ll make it easier and faster to build critical physical infrastructure - roads, bridges, utilities, data centers, housing, etc.

For decades, construction and field services contractors have had to run their businesses on outdated software: clunky, on-premise systems created in the 1980s and 1990s.

That’s where Miter comes in. We’re using AI and embedded payments to rebuild the core HR, finance, and operations systems that underpin our physical economy. Using Miter, contractors like Marathon Electrical, W.J. O’Neil, and Truebeck Construction are building stronger teams, controlling job costs, and accelerating jobsite execution.

This idea is resonating. Since we launched in 2021, we’ve grown to thousands of customers and tens of millions in ARR, making us one of the fastest growing vertical software companies ever. To double-down on our momentum, we’ve raised $50M+ from top investors (Bessemer, Coatue, and Battery) who share our belief that we’re just getting started.

About the Team & How We Work

Finance at Miter is small, fast, and high-leverage. We’re the analytical engine behind the company’s biggest decisions – from how we invest in growth to how we run the day-to-day. As our Finance Generalist, you’ll work directly with the Head of Finance and partner with leaders across the company to build the budgets, models, and operating systems that help Miter scale with discipline.

This is a rare opportunity to wear many hats: one day you’re building a hiring-plan model, the next you’re automating a vendor workflow or building a self-serve dashboard for a functional leader. We move quickly, write things down, and care deeply about leaving every process better than we found it. If you love turning ambiguity into structure and want to see the direct impact of your work on a fast-growing business, this is the seat for you.

What You'll Do
  • Support financial planning and business visibility. Build and improve the budgets, forecasts, and operating models that support company decision-making. Partner closely with functional leaders to track KPIs, understand performance, and turn data into clear recommendations and actionable insights.

  • Build operational rigor into the finance function. Help run the financial engine of the company by managing procurement and vendor workflows, partnering with outsourced accounting, supporting month-end close processes, and improving the systems and processes that keep finance operating smoothly and efficiently.

  • Be a high-leverage analytical partner. Tackle a wide range of business problems – from evaluating hiring plans to analyzing marketing efficiency to building dashboards and self-serve reporting. Context-switching is part of the job. You’ll work closely with the Head of Finance to help leaders make better decisions through structured analysis and operational insight.

  • Automate and improve how the company operates. Leverage AI, automation, and better systems design to eliminate manual work and improve operational efficiency. We’re looking for someone who instinctively looks for ways to build leverage, streamline workflows, and leave every process better than they found it.

What You'll Need
  • 2–6 years of experience in strategic finance, business operations, consulting, banking, analytics, or operating roles at a high-growth company.

  • Experience solving ambiguous business problems using structured thinking, strong business judgment, and data-driven analysis.

  • Track record of working cross-functionally to improve processes, build scalable workflows, and support better decision-making.

  • Strong financial modeling skills.

  • Comfort working with business data, analytics tooling, and operational systems; SQL or BI tool familiarity is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools, automation, or lightweight workflows to improve efficiency and decision-making.

  • Ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, and business processes in a fast-moving environment.

  • High ownership and bias toward action.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complexity into clear recommendations.

  • Structured problem-solver with strong systems-thinking instincts and attention to detail.

  • Low ego, highly collaborative approach with willingness to operate across both strategic and operational work.

Hybrid vs. Remote Approach:

We believe the magic of Miter comes from working side by side. We also believe in work flexibility. For roles that are listed as hybrid, our approach is 3 days a week in the office giving us the chance to connect, brainstorm, and build stronger relationships. If you live within a reasonable commute to either our New York City or San Francisco offices, we ask that you work in our hybrid approach.

Otherwise, for roles listed as remote or in other cities where we don't have an office location, there is no requirement to work in our hybrid approach. We do travel a few times a year for onboarding, company-wide and team specific off-sites!
