JOB OVERVIEW:

Position Overview:  The Financial Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the National Personal Lines Practice by ensuring accurate financial processes related to client compensation and insurance carrier commissions. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to maintain compliance and financial integrity.

 

LOCATION: HYBRID - San Mateo, CA (at least 3 days a week in-office is strongly preferred)

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Required: Insurance industry experience, particularly in regards to how insurance billing works.
  • Required: Accounting experience.
  • Strong Excel skills: This role will be doing heavy reporting and reconciling for a high production team.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

A detailed list of job duties includes (but is not limited to):

Compensation Determination & Confirmation 

  • Calculate and validate producer and client compensation structures in accordance with company policies and contractual agreements.
  • Review and confirm compensation adjustments, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Collaborate with sales and account management teams to resolve discrepancies and provide clear reporting on compensation outcomes.

Insurance Carrier Commission Validation 

  • Audit and reconcile commission statements from insurance carriers to ensure accuracy and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Investigate and resolve commission variances, working closely with carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed records of commission payments and adjustments for reporting and compliance purposes.

Financial Reporting & Analysis 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to compensation and commission performance.
  • Analyze trends and provide insights to leadership for strategic decision-making.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for the National Personal Lines Practice.

Process Improvement & Compliance 

  • Identify opportunities to streamline compensation and commission validation processes.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for financial accuracy and efficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably within insurance or brokerage environments.
  • Strong understanding of compensation structures and commission processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems; experience with insurance agency management systems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Possess excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of insurance carrier operations and commission structures.
  • Experience with data reconciliation and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards in the insurance industry.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency when responding to an inquiry.
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Must possess attention to detail.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Must be able to keep information confidential.

 

COMPENSATION: 

The national average salary for this role is $95 000.00 - $120 000.00 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
