Engineering Summer Internship Overview
The J&J Engineering Summer Internship Program is an 8-week internship experience targeted to rising first-year college students who have participated in the FIRST Robotics program during high school and are pursuing a STEM course of study at the university level. Internships are hosted in J&J sites across the US and will support either the Supply Chain or Research & Development functions.
Life as a J&J FIRST Robotics Engineering Intern
This first-of-its kind internship program provides each selected student with real-life hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, networking opportunities, as well as the opportunity to meet people from various schools throughout the country. As this unique internship is targeted to students who have very likely never worked in a corporate environment, an intentionally designed, engaging educational experience has been planned throughout the internship to ensure you feel supported and have all the tools you need to be successful. When you join our family, you will work on projects that improve your leadership, analytical, and project management skills. Cross-functional teamwork provides an opportunity to partner with a variety of people in the organization across all our sectors; Innovative Medicine, MedTech, and Corporate/Enterprise. We offer an interactive team environment, where your capabilities and skills will be developed to build a strong career foundation.
- Summer Internship term is June 2026 – August 2026 (dates may be flexible)
- Some teams may offer an extended internship term
- Assignments will require onsite presence at least 3 days per week, so it is necessary to be within commutable distance to one of the internship sites
- Some roles may offer one-time housing stipend assistance for candidates that qualify
- Transportation is the intern’s responsibility
- This position is overtime eligible and based on business need

Qualifications
Required:
- Permanent work authorization in the U.S. without the need of sponsorship now or in the future is required
- Ability to work full-time 40 hours/week for the duration of the 8-week internship program is required
- As of the start date, candidate’s completion and successful graduation from high school is required
- Enrollment in an accredited College/University Bachelor’s degree program, with intention to pursue an Engineering, Science or related STEM course of study, as of the start date of the internship is required
- Minimum 3.0 GPA is required
- Commutable distance (50 miles or less) from one of the locations listed is required
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills is required
- Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives while driving results with the ability to work independently as a self-started contributing to team goals is required
- If you are under 18 years of age you (the student) will need to obtain the necessary working papers in order to start the assignment, as well as get a parent’s consent for the background check
Preferred/Desired
- Participation in the FIRST Robotics Program during high school is strongly preferred
- Excellent communication, presentation skills and leadership skills are desired
- Ability to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and a dedicated approach to achieving success is desired
- Intention to pursue a degree in engineering or similar is preferred
- Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is desired
The expected payrate for this position is $19 per hour. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
