Forum's Venture Studio brings together ambitious people, brilliant ideas, and capital to build the best B2B SaaS businesses in the world, from 0 to 1. Our AI Studio has launched 17 companies since 2023, and we're launching 7 more in 2026. We're designed to help Founders move faster, develop better insights, and build companies that have a higher success rate than startups built in any other way.

We’re looking for a Founder/CEO to build an AI-native compliance platform for regulated electric utilities.

What are we exploring?

Utilities face intensifying regulatory scrutiny under NERC, with fines ranging from tens of thousands to millions of dollars. Yet most compliance is still manual: spreadsheets, checklists, and consultants dominate. As the grid modernizes, these legacy approaches can’t scale.

We see an opportunity to build an AI-native compliance copilot—automating evidence collection, anomaly detection, and audit preparation across 95+ NERC standards. By embedding AI directly into utility workflows, this platform can cut costs, reduce risks, and keep operators audit-ready at all times.

Forum derisks and accelerates the Founder path by:

  • $250K USD investment and fundraising support for Seed and Series A

  • Playbooks for validating compliance workflows with utility customers

  • Access to product, engineering, and growth expertise from Forum’s team

  • A community of advisors and investors with experience in critical infrastructure

  • $100K worth of business perks

About you:

  • Domain expertise in utilities, energy regulation, or compliance SaaS

  • Track record of building products for regulated industries or critical infrastructure

  • Prior experience as a founder or early-stage operator who has worked through the messy middle of building something new

  • Strong technical instincts and ability to embed AI into operational workflows

  • Passion for transforming compliance into a strategic advantage

  • Ability to collaborate in North American time zones

Please note, this is not an employment opportunity with Forum Ventures. If you are currently fundraising your pre-seed or Seed round, please pitch our investment team instead here.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
