About Verc, Inc.

Verc is building an AI-native operating system for loan servicing and collections. Our mission is to modernize one of the most complex, regulated, and human-critical industries by replacing fragmented legacy workflows with intelligent, secure AI systems built for production.

Loan servicing and collections are still run on disconnected tools, manual processes, and human judgment trapped inside call notes, spreadsheets, policies, and legacy systems. These are high-stakes financial operations where every decision affects revenue, compliance, and the borrower experience.

We are building the AI-native operating layer for this industry: one secure system that helps teams understand borrower context, automate workflows, guide agents, and make better decisions in real time. Our platform brings together AI systems, speech technologies, predictive models, deterministic logic, and structured data pipelines to support financial operations where trust, reliability, and auditability matter.

As an early-stage company, this is an opportunity to join at the ground floor and help define the product, technical architecture, engineering culture, and future of the company.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Founding Engineer who can help build Verc from 0 to 1. You will operate in a high-ambiguity environment where both the problem and the solution are still evolving. You will take ideas from initial concept to working product, customer validation, and real-world usage. Along the way, you will own decisions across the stack and help shape not just what we build, but how we build it.

As a Founding Engineer, starting from day one you will have significant ownership across product, engineering, and architecture. You will work directly with Verc’s Founder and VP/Director of Engineering to design, build, ship, and iterate on core product experiences and AI-powered workflows for customers in loan servicing and collections. We are looking for someone who can move quickly, make smart technical tradeoffs, and turn ambiguous ideas into working product. If you are scrappy, product-minded, and excited to build and iterate quickly, you will succeed at Verc. You do not need perfect specs, large teams, or mature infrastructure to be effective. You should be comfortable scaffolding, prototyping, shipping, learning from customers, and then improving the system as the product becomes clearer.

This is a career-accelerating role for someone who wants to build at the speed and ambiguity of a founding team. You will get direct exposure to customers, product strategy, technical architecture, AI workflows, and company-building decisions that are usually separated across multiple roles. If you want to learn how to build an AI company from the inside, this role will give you that experience quickly.

What You'll Do

  • Act as a forward-deployed builder, partnering closely with customers to uncover workflow pain points, ship AI-driven solutions into live environments, ship code early and often, and iterate rapidly based on real usage signals and measurable outcomes
  • Own product features end-to-end from ideation through to building responsive, user-centric web apps and backend generative AI services and APIs
  • Turning complex backend capabilities into simple, elegant product experiences
  • Work directly with founders to develop and ship products with a user-centric approach.
  • Design and implement multi-agent LLM systems with structured orchestration, tool use, memory, and domain-specific constraints
  • Build and refine embedding, retrieval, and predictive pipelines that ground AI behavior in structured and unstructured data
  • Implement guardrails, policy enforcement logic, and evaluation criteria to ensure regulatory alignment and safe system behavior
  • Iteratively improve prompts, agent configurations, and workflow logic to increase task success, reduce hallucinations, and ensure policy adherence
  • Define and track success metrics across product performance, reliability, latency, and cost
  • Work across backend services, APIs, and event-driven workflows to ensure AI systems are integrated, observable, and production-ready
  • Monitor live systems, investigate edge cases, and continuously harden production behavior
  • Leverage modern AI tools, including coding assistants and research systems, thoughtfully and responsibly to accelerate development while maintaining correctness, security, and compliance standards

You Might Be a Good Fit If You

  • Are a hands-on builder who loves taking an idea from zero to working product.
  • Have strong product instincts and care deeply about building software people actually use.
  • Move fast, but with good judgment and strong taste.
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and can turn a one-sentence idea into a working prototype or shipped feature.
  • Have experience building full-stack products, AI-native applications, workflow tools, internal tools, or customer-facing software.
  • Are on the cutting edge of AI and believe that AI will fundamentally augment how engineers work. You're already using AI tools to move faster and build better.
  • Have strong technical fundamentals from a top engineering environment, strong academic background, or meaningful startup/company experience.
  • Have built things independently: side projects, startups, open-source projects, internal tools, or products from scratch. We want to see evidence of building, whether that's on your GitHub, a live product, or something you can walk us through.
  • Are excited to work directly with customers and the founding team in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
  • Are a strong communicator who can engage with clients, partners, and investors when needed.
  • Care about reliability, security, and correctness, especially in regulated or high-stakes industries.
  • Are low-ego, collaborative, and willing to do whatever is needed to help the company win.

Ideal Background

  • 0–3 years of experience, but unusually high ownership, technical ability, and product sense.
  • Strong academic or company background.
  • Evidence of building things independently: side projects, startups, open-source work, hackathons, or production products.
  • Excited to grow quickly inside an early-stage startup.

Nice to Have

  • Experience as a founding engineer, early engineer, or technical founder.
  • Experience building AI-native products or workflows.
  • Experience with fintech, lending, loan servicing, collections, compliance, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience building with Python, React, Next.js, cloud infrastructure, APIs, or modern AI tooling.
  • Experience working directly with customers in a forward-deployed or product engineering capacity.
  • Experience helping a startup move from prototype to production.

Compensation

  • Base salary: $120,000 to $200,000 depending on experience.
  • Equity: Meaningful early-stage equity, scaling with seniority and role scope.
  • Final compensation will depend on experience level, role scope, and seniority.
