The Founding Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will develop and maintain the cloud platform's infrastructure using GoLang and Kubernetes, solve client issues, and manage production systems.

Company
Thunder Compute is the lowest cost, easiest GPU cloud for developers. We’re a 4-person team with $4.5M raised from top tier investors including Y Combinator.

There are two parts to our company. 1) we are a cloud platform where customers can rent GPUs just like they would from Coreweave, Lambda, AWS, etc., and 2) we are building virtualization software to use GPUs 3x more efficiently than these competitors.

This huge efficiency gain allows our cloud to run at higher margins than competitors without any CapEx.

Role
As a cloud infrastructure engineer, you will work on the GoLang backbone for our cloud platform. Your days will be a mix of working to solve problems for customers and building resilient, stable production infrastructure. This is a fast-paced role where you are expected to learn quickly; we will have you jump in from day one.
Our infrastructure is majority GoLang. We use a non-standard Kubernetes deployment as a form of hypervisor, with Go scripting for controls and auxiliary services for everything from storage to billing to networking.

If you worked at a large company and felt restricted working on a single piece of a huge machine, look no further. At Thunder Compute you will work on complicated production infrastructure, learning quickly while interfacing with customers and owning broad scope across the platform.

ResponsibilitiesCore technical skills:
  • GoLang, some Python and Next.js
  • Kubernetes (unconventional deployment)
  • Experience owning production systems
  • Ability to quickly solve problems for clients
Must haves:
  • Fast speed to output, with high attention to detail
  • Potential for senior leadership as we scale
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-driven (you'll own your work from day 1)
Preferred
  • CS degree from top 50 US university, 3.5+ GPA (Bachelor's required)
  • Experience building high-stakes production infrastructure for a trading firm or cloud provider
Logistics
  • Full-time, generous salary + equity.
  • This role is in-person in our San Francisco office.
  • You will report to Co-founder/CTO Brian (ex-Citadel quant dev).

Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $170,000 – $210,000 per year.
