Company Description
Heavy infrastructure cannot be built fast enough to fulfill the promises of American reindustrialization. With labor availability tightening and the workforce aging, construction faces a multi-trillion-dollar execution gap over the next decade. Backed by Founders Fund and others, the team is developing robots for outdoor, high-payload job site work with a focus on immediate deployment and autonomy that delivers value immediately. We’re partnering with the largest heavy construction firms to put robots on sites immediately, building hardware, data, and commercial moats to bring end-to-end autonomy to construction.

Role Description
We are looking for a Founding Electrical Engineer to own Strata’s v1 electrical system. This person will be responsible for the end-to-end design and integration of high-voltage power systems, power distribution, high-torque motors, and complex sensor suites. Crucially, this role will include designing a robust and safety critical system that is a non-negotiable for a rugged and reliable construction robot. This person will work with the mechanical and autonomy engineers to integrate across systems and meet challenging design requirements. This person will lay the foundation for how the electrical team operates — setting the standards, processes, and engineering culture that will scale with Strata.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the full PCB development lifecycle, including component selection, schematic capture and layout, and board bring up
  • Perform hardware and firmware level debugging across complex, multi-board systems
  • Create and execute detailed and rigorous board and system-level test plans
  • Work with mechanical, firmware, and autonomy engineers to define interfaces and drive seamless system integration
  • Deliver a deployment-ready electrical system that meet the highest standards of reliability and safety

Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, with 2+ years building and testing complex hardware systems - Demonstrated technical leadership skills and experience
  • Strong background in PCB design; proficient in EDA tools such as Altium Designer
  • Experience in designing for reliability and safety-critical environments, with an understanding of failure modes and mitigations
  • Experience working with power systems, including DC/DC and DC/AC converters - Familiarity with embedded systems design and C, with experience working with common communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN, UART, SPI)
  • Experience working in an electronics lab, using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters; and experience with board bring-up and debugging complex systems
Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $100,000 – $180,000 per year.
