Design and own foundational platform systems for autonomous AI agents: distributed pipelines, multi-tenant data processing, automation editor, graph traversal and indexing, and self-assembling agent frameworks to resolve enterprise procurement exceptions end-to-end.
The summary above was generated by AI
Fragment builds AI agents that autonomously resolve procurement exceptions for Fortune 500 enterprises. Not routing. Not flagging. Resolution. The infrastructure we've built allows us to deploy on top of whatever systems a customer already runs — SAP, Oracle, Coupa, homegrown — and our agents resolve 3-way match failures, change orders, duplicate invoices, and more, end to end. No rip-and-replace.

We're hiring Founding Engineers to help build the systems that make this possible. Our founding team comes from enterprise AI and manufacturing and has been shipping agents in production environments since the beginning. We need engineers who want to own what they build.

Company Highlights
  • The Team: Our founding team has been building and deploying enterprise AI Agents together since the inception of agents. Our CEO previously led and scaled three of Zoom's products to $300M+ in revenue while our CTO is an ex-AI researcher who has spent his entire career in enterprise AI, leading engineering teams from seed through series C.
  • Market Demand: We have several Fortune 500 customers, $20M in active pipeline, and customers actively championing us to their networks. Our marketing and CAC to get here has been $0.
  • Hypergrowth: We've grown from $0 to mid 7-figure ARR in H1 of this year and the majority of our pipeline has come from customer references.
  • Product: We pride ourselves on our depth of our experience building agents, and on our continued diligence in leveraging the latest technology. We hold a high bar of excellence that starts with the founding team.

Background
Deploying truly impactful AI Agents today requires teams of forward-deployed engineers, months of ontology design, hundreds of ad-hoc integrations, and thousands of lines of glue code. It’s slow, expensive, brittle, and impossible to scale.

Fragment eliminates all of that. We’ve built a platform where:
  1. Ontology Agents autonomously construct the context layer, unifying structured + unstructured data, capturing tribal knowledge, and composing it all into a real-time ontology of the business.
  2. Self-assembling Process Agents automate workflows that would normally be manually and tediously handled by BPOs. Our first suite of agentic workflows, which drove our early traction, targets procurement.
Our product sits in the #1 budget priority for traditional enterprises right now: AI that streamlines labor, and actually works in production.

What We Believe
  1. Ownership: We operate with a high-agency culture where exceptional people are trusted with broad mandates and the autonomy to drive outcomes. Accordingly, we believe in meaningful equity that accelerates your career.
  2. Speed of Trust: Momentum is one of the most important functions of a successful startup, and trust is the accelerant. Trust in ourselves, trust with our customers, trust in each other.
  3. Delivering Customer Success: Our customers’ success is our success, and drives Fragment forward. Our responsibility is to make sure, at any point in time, we are doing everything we can to make our customers successful – in their deployments, in their careers, even in their lives at times.
  4. Family: One of our founders is a young parent, and both founders believe discipline creates room for balance. We support families and commitments outside work while staying intensely focused on the mission.

What You'll Do
You will design and own systems that don’t exist yet -- the foundational architecture for AI Agents operating over complex enterprise data. For example:
  • Build a distributed agent pipeline that processes tens of millions of data points with deterministic, auditable, and multi-tenant-safe behavior
  • Define and develop an automation editor that takes a visual-text hybrid approach to workflow development. Enable dynamic, configurable design that autonomously adapts to the processes of a customer.
  • Engineer graph traversal + indexing systems enabling fast, lossless reasoning over our Unified Data Interface (UDI) and arbitrary data systems.
  • Define the core framework for self-assembling agents that compose and execute workflows autonomously -- safely, predictably, and with full traceability
This is not a “feature team” role. This is foundational engineering, shaping the platform that every agent and every enterprise workflow will rely on.

Who You Are
We’re looking for a high-slope generalist with 2-7 years of experience who gets restless when they're not building things that matter. You might describe yourself as someone who:
  • Learns ridiculously fast
  • Thrives in ambiguity
  • Thinks in systems, not tickets
  • Ships high quality work quickly
  • Gets excited by messy enterprise data and hard problems
  • Wants to own architecture, product, and customer impact
  • Has seen high quality production code across the stack

Interested? Reach out even if you’re not sure you’re a perfect fit. High-slope engineers rarely fit cleanly on paper.
Compensation
We believe the best teams in the world are aligned by shared ownership and that this is particularly true for the earliest team members. Our compensation is designed to reflect this: 99th percentile compensation for 99th percentile teammates.

$200,000 – $300,000 + equity

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
