Role Description
We are seeking dynamic and driven Founding Engineers to play a pivotal role in shaping the technological foundation and strategy of our early-stage company. This is a full-time, on-site position based in San Francisco, CA. As a Founding Engineer, your responsibilities will include designing and developing core product features, optimizing systems for performance and scalability, and collaborating closely with the founding team to bring the company's vision to life. You will have the unique opportunity to work across the tech stack, make decisive technical choices, and help build a strong engineering culture within the organization.
Qualifications
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, regardless of language or framework
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and microservice-based architectures
- Comfort working across multiple codebases and services with different technology choices
- Solid experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar) and production deployments
- Deep familiarity with Linux servers, networking basics, and operating system level debugging
- Experience building, operating, or maintaining data pipelines and backend services at scale
- Ability to reason about performance, reliability, and system tradeoffs in real production environments
- Familiarity with agent-based systems, LLM-powered workflows, or integrating AI models into production systems
- Strong problem-solving ability and comfort operating with incomplete information
- Clear communication and the ability to work closely with founders in a fast-moving, early-stage environment
- Prior experience as a founder, early engineer, or technical owner of critical systems is a strong plus
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience preferred, but not required
The base pay range for this role is $140,000 – $220,000 per year.
