At Fundamental, you'll work on unprecedented technical challenges in foundation model development and build technology that transforms how the world's largest companies make decisions. This is your opportunity to be part of a category-defining company from the ground-up. Join the team defining the future of enterprise AI.

About the role

We’re looking for our Founding Product Designer to establish product design at Fundamental and shape how people experience our products. You’ll own the design system at the heart of our platform and lead the UX and UI of our platform and agentic products.

This is a hands-on role with significant ownership and impact. You’ll work closely with Product and Engineering, from defining user problems and exploring concepts through detailed design and implementation.

What you'll do

Establish product design at Fundamental:

  • Define the principles, processes, and standards that guide product design across the company.

  • Bring design into product discovery and help shape product direction from the earliest stages.

  • Build a deep understanding of our users through research, usability testing, product usage, and direct conversations.

  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to identify user needs and turn them into clear product experiences.

Build and evolve our AI-native design system:

  • Build and maintain an AI-native design system, including UI kits, interaction patterns, prompt and response patterns, agent behaviors, and style guides used across our platform and products.

  • Establish reusable components, standards, and workflows that create a consistent, intuitive experience across product surfaces and AI-powered interactions.

  • Ensure the design system follows brand guidelines while translating them effectively across interfaces, intelligent behaviors, and emerging AI-native experiences.

  • Work closely with engineers and AI teams through implementation to preserve design intent, usability, accessibility, and quality.

  • Evolve the design system as our products, technical capabilities, AI workflows, and user needs develop.

Shape our platform and product experiences:

  • Lead design across the complete product lifecycle for predictive AI/ML and generative AI workflows.

  • Design end-to-end experiences across our platform and agentic products.

  • Define how users guide agents, understand their progress, review their work, provide input, and remain in control.

  • Turn complex AI and data-science workflows into clear, intuitive experiences.

  • Explore concepts, create prototypes, test them with users, and translate validated ideas into detailed designs.

  • Balance user needs with technical feasibility, product performance, and business priorities.

What you’ll bring
  • 7+ years of experience designing technical products, including complex enterprise B2B software, with a strong background in technical web applications, enterprise platforms, or developer tools.

  • At least 1–2 years of experience designing human-in-the-loop agentic experiences, including products and workflows spanning CLI, API, and graphical interfaces.

  • AI and ML domain expertise: A strong practical understanding of AI and ML workflows, their users, and the challenges of making these systems understandable and controllable.

  • Problem-solving ability: A track record of addressing complex design challenges while balancing usability, technical feasibility, and performance.

  • Research skills: Experience conducting user interviews, usability testing, and product discovery with technical users.

  • Collaboration and leadership: The ability to shape design strategy, influence product decisions, and collaborate effectively with Product and Engineering.

  • Comfort with ambiguity: The judgment and autonomy to identify user needs, frame unclear problems, and move from early exploration to shipped experiences.

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong interaction design, systems thinking, visual execution, and measurable product impact.

What will make you stand out
  • AI-enabled design practice: You use AI tools for exploration, prototyping, content, or code assistance, improving speed, quality, and team workflows.

  • Code-first workflows: You’ve designed for products spanning agents, CLI, API, and UI, including developer tools, documentation, system feedback, and transitions between surfaces.

  • Experience designing cohesive experiences across code and graphical interfaces.

  • Experience mentoring designers or strengthening product-design practices.
