Creative Director, Campaign Copywriting

Are you a writer’s writer and a big idea generator? If so, we’d love to talk.

We’re looking for a smart, strategic creative director of writing to join our campaign team. As our new CDW, your job is to lead a team of badass writers, designers and art directors to find a great idea, clean it up, and get it gleaming into one of those WHABAM creative solutions that makes clients’ eyes light up (after, of course, you’ve used your excellent communication skills to help them See the Light).

In this role, you’ll work on every kind of campaign, from the digital- and social-first to the big 360s. And don’t worry about getting pigeon-holed: You’ll work on a variety of industries, from Big Tech to small consumer brands, and a lot in between.

You’re a great fit if:

  • You’re a conceptual thinker who can spot an idea with legs from a million miles away.
  • You’re a leader and a doer—someone who can nurture junior talent and also write your own scripts.
  • You’re also a serious-attention-to-detail person. You care about craft and delivering work that’s thoughtful, well edited, and considered.
  • You are truly a writer and communicator at heart.
  • You love getting to know new clients and new challenges—and pitching new ideas that you and the team want to make.
  • You love design, learning about new industries, and being part of a tight-knit team that moves fast
  • You’re energetic, optimistic, and excited to do great things
  • You play well with others—and appreciate working with really, really nice people and clients

Here's a breakdown of the key aspects of this role:

 Core Responsibilities:

Creative Leadership:

  • Enthusiastically develops and executes high-impact, persuasive and compelling content for integrated campaigns. This includes print, social media, paid search, video advertising, influencer marketing and more.
  • Establishes and maintains the overall creative direction, ensuring a consistent message across client projects.
  • Serves as a leader in the creative process, guiding teams through ideation, design, and execution.

Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Works closely with copywriters, designers, strategists, project managers and the production team to ensure the cohesive creative direction of content that delivers on the creative brief.
  • Leads brainstorming sessions and provides constructive feedback to ensure high-quality work.
  • Acst as a liaison between the creative team and internal stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and idea flow.

Client Engagement & Communication:

  • Eagerly engage in client content to best understand the client’s vision, business goals, and their products and services and then translating these into compelling creative deliverables.
  • Present creative concepts and campaigns to clients and internal teams, articulating decisions and the strategic rationale behind them.
  • Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts and collaborate with client-facing teams to nurture and expand client relationships.
  • Represent the creative team in new business presentations and pitches, showcasing VSA’s copywriting capabilities and approach to campaign work.
  • Help identify new business opportunities and contribute to the agency’s growth strategy.

Project Management & Execution:

  • Coordinate across teams to ensure that all deliverables meet deadlines and production quality standards.
  • Oversee multiple campaigns, ensuring consistency and high-quality execution across platforms and media.

Mentorship & Development:

  • Support the development of junior staff by providing mentorship and feedback to foster their growth as needed.
  • Identify tools, resources, and processes that improve creative efficiency and team performance.
Skills and Experience:
  • Copywriting Expertise: 10+ years of creative writing experience, preferably in an agency setting.
  • Strong Portfolio: A robust writing portfolio of integrated campaign work that spans from print to digital to experiential for B2b and B2C brands.
  • Leadership & Team Management: 3+ years of managing teams. Proven ability to lead and inspire creative teams, providing direction and feedback while fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to synthesize client briefs, strategic objectives, and market insights into innovative campaign executions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for client presentations, team coordination, and internal collaboration. Comfort with sophisticated writing assignments, styles, and subject areas.
  • Project Management: Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. Slack, Google Suite and Workamajig).

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
