About candidate.fyi

candidate.fyi is the AI execution layer for talent operations. We build the infrastructure that powers interview scheduling, recruiting coordination, and candidate experience for companies like CoreWeave, Intercom, and Yelp - and we're doing it with a level of AI-nativeness that the legacy players in this space can't touch.

We're a lean, high-conviction team growing fast without burning cash. Every person here has real ownership and real impact. We don't have layers of process - we ship, learn, and iterate.

The Role

We're looking for a backend-focused full stack engineer who thinks in systems, cares about product quality, and is genuinely excited to build with AI - not just alongside it.

You'll work directly with the founding team on the core platform: the scheduling engine, our autonomous AI agents, and the integrations that connect candidate.fyi to enterprise ATS infrastructure. Your focus is backend - but you're comfortable enough on the frontend to own a feature all the way through. You'll also talk to customers directly, understanding their problems firsthand and using that to shape what you build.

This isn't a ticket-execution role. We want someone who notices what's broken before being told, proposes solutions, and has opinions about how the product should work.

What You'll Do

  • Build and scale backend services in Python and Django powering our scheduling, coordination, and AI agent infrastructure

  • Design and ship autonomous agents that handle real recruiting workflows - scheduling coordination, candidate communication, and handoff logic - with minimal human intervention

  • Design APIs that integrate with enterprise ATS systems and our React frontend

  • Ship AI-powered features using LLMs; we use Cursor heavily as a team and expect you to be comfortable working that way

  • Optimize database performance and query efficiency across a PostgreSQL backend handling complex scheduling logic

  • Talk directly with customers to understand pain points, validate solutions, and close the feedback loop between what's shipped and what's needed

What We're Looking For

  • 2–3 years of hands-on Python and Django experience - this is non-negotiable

  • Solid PostgreSQL fundamentals: query optimization, schema design, indexing

  • Comfort with REST API design and integration patterns

  • Familiarity with TypeScript and React - you don't need to live on the frontend, but you shouldn't be afraid of it

  • Proficiency with AI coding tools; we're a Cursor shop and expect you to work the same way

  • Experience building or working with AI agents, LLM-powered workflows, or agentic systems is a strong plus

  • A product mindset: you think about the "why" behind what you're building, not just the "how"

  • Eastern timezone for overlap with the team

Why candidate.fyi

  • Work side by side with the founding team - no layers, no middlemen

  • Talk directly with customers at companies like CoreWeave, Intercom, and Yelp and see the impact of your work firsthand

  • Small team, real ownership - no waiting six months to see your work in production

  • We're building toward fully autonomous recruiting agents, and you'll be central to that

  • Remote-friendly with full health benefits
