Build and evolve a shared ads policy platform: authoring UIs, policy model and evaluation services, APIs, explainability, migrations from localized logic, and partner across product, policy, design, and engineering while mentoring teammates and owning end-to-end delivery.

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

Netflix's Ads Engineering team is building the technology and infrastructure behind our advertising business and in-house ad tech ecosystem. We are creating highly performant advertising systems that give members more choice, deliver value for advertisers, and help monetize Netflix's incredible slate of content.

Our Team

Ads policies govern which ads may run, where they may appear, and under what conditions. They help ensure that advertising complies with local regulations, content-rights agreements, and Netflix standards while protecting the member and advertiser experience.

Ads Policy Infrastructure is a new team building the shared platform for defining, managing, evaluating, and explaining those policies across the ads lifecycle. Policy is both a safety and monetization capability: precise and consistent decisions protect members and advertisers while allowing eligible demand to reach the right inventory.

Our work spans two equally important surfaces: the central policy service and service that evaluates policy at scale, and the authoring experience that enables policy experts to express complex intent safely and clearly. We partner closely with Ads Policy, Product, Design, Creative, Targeting, and engineering teams across campaign planning, ad serving, live events, creative review, and reporting.

The Role

This is a full-stack growth role on a new team building a new product and platform. You may bring deep expertise from either backend or frontend engineering; we do not expect equal depth across both on day one. We are looking for someone eager to expand across the stack and increasingly own complete product slices—from policy modeling and distributed evaluation to the interface where experts create and understand rules.

As an experienced engineer, you will help set technical direction, turn ambiguous business and policy needs into durable systems, and raise the engineering bar through sound judgment, clear communication, and end-to-end ownership.

What You'll Do
  • Shape the architecture and evolution of a shared policy model, management service, APIs, and evaluation platform.

  • Build intuitive authoring workflows that make complex policy rules understandable and safe to create, review, and change.

  • Design versioned contracts and integration patterns that allow systems across the ads lifecycle to consume policy decisions consistently.

  • Develop explainability and observability capabilities, including reason codes, decision traces, and operational metrics.

  • Lead incremental migrations from localized policy logic to shared platform capabilities while protecting correctness and availability.

  • Partner with Policy, Product, Design, Operations, and engineering teams to clarify requirements, resolve trade-offs, and deliver end-to-end outcomes.

  • Mentor teammates and contribute to architecture, engineering practices, and the long-term direction of the team.

Must-Have Skills & Experience
  • General understanding of Ads domain

  • Strong knowledge of a general purpose object-oriented language like C++, Java

  • Strong knowledge of a React and Javascript/Typescript

  • Experience interfacing with REST APIs and/or GraphQL endpoints

  • Understanding of UX and UI design principles

  • Experience leading complex projects/features from problem framing and design through delivery, operation, and evolution.

  • Comfort working through ambiguity. You can make progress with incomplete information, create clarity across disciplines, and revise decisions as the team learns.

  • Strong knowledge of API design, data modeling, schema evolution.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and a track record of effective collaboration across technical and non-technical teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience
  • Experience with rules engines, policy or entitlement systems, authorization, risk platforms, or expression evaluation.

  • Experience with Ads trust and safety, content moderation, regulatory compliance, or advertising technology.

  • Experience building high-volume batch evaluation, low-latency decision systems, or multi-tenant platforms.

  • Experience with migrating large-scale systems and handling backward compatibility.

  • Familiarity with CTV(connected TV), live streaming, or programmatic advertising.

  • Contributed to an ads industry technology standard (e.g.  VAST, OpenRTB) or worked on an industry consortium effort, working group etc.
