💻 Role

The Selling team at Whatnot is responsible for building the end-to-end experience of listings, empowering sellers to merchandise their inventory in our various sales channels and formats. There are a variety of buying and selling formats on Whatnot, ranging from short-form live auctions and "Buy It Now" options to offers. The Purchase XP subteam is dedicated to creating new mechanisms for buyers and sellers to transact, aiming to add value to the business and create fun, social experiences (features like auctions, a best-in-class trading card 'breaks' feature, pre-bids, and more). They work across the full technology stack, and collaborate closely with other teams on our projects to solve a wide variety of interesting problems.
In this fullstack role, you will...

  • Enhance the Breaks experience, one of Whatnot’s most viral and GMV-driving formats, by improving end-to-end performance and delivering the best possible buyer and seller experience.

  • Reimagine Auctions – Innovate within Whatnot’s core selling format by experimenting with new ways to make bidding more dynamic, engaging, and rewarding for users.

  • Build feature consistency across mobile and web, providing data to help sellers identify high-performing listings and prevent missed opportunities, and add deeper telemetry to optimize livestream and auction flows.

  • Build with the latest technologies (Apollo, Next.js) and modern languages (Python, Elixir) to deliver performant, high quality experiences to our users.

We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance of our Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco or Seattle hub.
