This position combines storytelling, design, digital content creation, and donor communication to increase visibility and foster lasting relationships. The ideal candidate has a blend of marketing expertise and non-profit experience, thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and is highly detail-oriented.


Position: Fund Development Marketing & Communications Manager

Location: Corporate office in the Sacramento, CA area

Classification: Full-Time Exempt

Pay Range:  $70,000-75,000/annual

LifeSTEPS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. The mission of LifeSTEPS is to provide effective educational and supportive services to maximize the strengths of individuals and build resilient communities.  Founded in 1996, LifeSTEPS is currently one of the premier social services providers in affordable housing, and is the leading agency and national model of eviction prevention and sustainable housing.  LifeSTEPS provides impact to over 110,000 residents residing at over 440 partnered affordable housing communities across the state of California.  Our vision is that every person served by LifeSTEPS will be empowered with the skills, resources, and support to maintain stable housing and break the cycle of poverty. Our founders believe that building affordable housing is only the first step. It is also essential to provide meaningful programs that empower people to move forward in their lives.

Core Duties:

  • Model, promote and live out the LifeSTEPS workplace values of integrity, innovation, empowerment, respect and personal growth in tandem with the Oz Principles.
  • Follow all LifeSTEPS policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Develop and manage LifeSTEPS’ marketing strategy in alignment with fundraising goals.
  • Lead the creation of all donor-facing communications and materials, including impact reports, campaign collateral, appeal letters, and newsletters.
  • Manage and update the organization’s website; collaborate with staff to ensure content is current and mission-driven.
  • Develop and implement email campaigns, ensuring brand consistency and compelling messaging.
  • Lead social media content creation and scheduling in partnership with development staff.
  • Serve as the organization’s brand steward, ensuring consistency in tone, visuals, and messaging across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with program and development teams to gather and produce impact stories for donor engagement.
  • Provide art direction and oversee design of marketing collateral including flyers, infographics, and event materials.
  • Assist in planning and promoting fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics across channels to refine and optimize marketing strategies.
  • Coordinate photography and video capture for storytelling and promotional needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management or related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a communications, marketing, or development, preferably in a within a non-profit setting.
  • Strong storytelling and copywriting skills.
  • Experience with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress), email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp or Constant Contact), and design tools (e.g., Canva or Adobe Suite).
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and digital marketing strategy.
  • Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Graphic design, photography, or videography skills a plus.
