Description

At Arkadium our purpose is to have fun while creating fun - and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing for 20 years. We’re the creators behind the world’s most-played games. From the Solitaire that came on your Windows machine, to hundreds of other games you’ve come to know and love - you can find our games on Arkadium.com, iOS, Android, and lots of other big sites worldwide.

As a proud Evergreen business our values of Fierce Drive, Positive Energy and Living Full Lives are the driving force behind how we run and the choices we make.

We’re privately held (aka stable and reasonable about growth), founder-led (aka passionate about our craft) and we consistently rank as a “Best Place to Work” (aka not your typical games company).

Interested in becoming an Arkadian? We’d love to hear from you!

Overview

Arkadium is seeking a creative and passionate Game Designer to join our Games Team. As a Game Designer at Arkadium, you will work closely with our experienced team to review and craft engaging and enjoyable casual games that captivate our players. This is an excellent opportunity to kickstart your career in the gaming industry with a company whose games are played by over 21 million people per month. This role reports directly to the Director of Games.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Games to brainstorm and create new and appealing game ideas with engagement, retention, and monetization potential in mind.
  • Review and provide feedback for our slate of first party, second party, and third party published titles alongside development milestones, including art, music, FTUE, level design, animations, scoring, game loading, monetization (hard and soft currency, rewarded video), and retention.
  • Put together concept documents that outline core gameplay mechanics, objectives, and overall vision for the game.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce a prototype, a small-scale playable version of the game, to test and refine gameplay concepts.
  • Work on and update the design document to make it ready for internal and external game development and art teams to implement, ensuring it provides clear instructions for QA testing.
  • Prepare basic layouts and mock-ups for simple game screens and pop-ups, focusing on delivering a seamless and enjoyable user experience for players.
  • Create and fine-tune game assets, such as levels, puzzles, and obstacles.
  • Playtest and iterate on game designs to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for our players.
  • Analyze player feedback and data to make data-driven design decisions.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, casual (and web) games best practices, and Arkadium’s own standards of excellence (art, animation, design, tech, etc).
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience working on games that have shipped for public consumption.
  • A passion for casual games and a strong understanding of what makes them fun and engaging.
  • A degree or relevant coursework in game design, interactive media, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience with game design through personal projects, internships, or coursework.
  • Proficiency in game development languages and tools, such as HTML5 and Unity.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and a critical eye for game balance and design.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • A portfolio showcasing your design work or related projects is highly desirable.
Benefits

Why Join Arkadium?

  • High-Impact Role – Work at the intersection of strategy, execution, and technology, influencing the company’s trajectory.
  • Fast-Paced, High-Growth Environment – No two days are the same. You'll be challenged, stretched, and given autonomy to make an impact.
  • Leadership & Growth Opportunity – Manage a small but high-impact team and take ownership of critical company initiatives.
  • Collaborative, Agile Culture – We move fast, work hard, and have fun while doing it.
  • Shape the Future – Be part of a company that is redefining browser gaming and driving innovation in the space.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with structured performance and career development check-ins.
  • Meaningful supplemental health insurance (medical, dental & vision plans).
  • Additional budget for conferences you are interested in.
  • Personal development budget to fuel your passions and desire to learn (Arkadians are taking language, interior design and even swimming lessons!)
  • Professional coaching budget.
  • Time off from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day so we can all enjoy the holidays.
  • A unique culture of transparency, true teamwork and fun.
  • Summer Fridays - where we end work earlier on Fridays, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Final compensation will be determined by the candidate’s relevant experience, knowledge/skills and location.
