At Tilt, we see a side of people that traditional lenders miss. Our mobile-first products and machine learning-powered credit models look beyond credit scores, using over 250 real-time financial signals to recognize real potential. With millions of customers worldwide, we're not just changing how people access financial products — we're creating a new credit system that backs the working, whatever they're working toward.

The Opportunity: Global Tax Lead

Tilt is hiring an International Tax Lead to own tax across all of Tilt's markets, in the US and internationally, including each new country we enter. You will be Tilt's tax subject-matter expert: the person Finance, Legal, Compliance, People and Product come to with tax questions, and the person who spots tax issues before they become problems.
We work with external tax advisors for preparation and specialist advice. You will direct and review their work, decide where we need outside help, and make sure every filing and position is accurate, on time and defensible. You report to the Head of Accounting and work closely with the finance leads in each market.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Lead and review external advisors

  • Manage Tilt's tax advisors in each country: scope the work, set calendars, review deliverables and hold firms to deadlines and budget

  • Review federal, state, and foreign income tax returns, indirect tax filings and withholding filings before they are filed

  • Evaluate advisor coverage and fees each year and recommend changes

Own global tax compliance and reporting

  • Maintain one global tax calendar covering all entities and jurisdictions

  • Own the quarterly and annual income tax provision (ASC 740), including foreign entities, uncertain tax positions and valuation allowances, and support the external audit

  • Oversee US international reporting, such as Forms 5471 and 5472, and the GILTI (global intangible low-taxed income) and Subpart F calculations

  • Oversee US state income, franchise and sales tax, and state business registrations and renewals

Cross-border and in-country tax

  • Own transfer pricing policy and documentation for intercompany services, loans and charges, and work with Accounting to book intercompany charges correctly

  • Manage withholding tax on cross-border payments, treaty eligibility and permanent establishment risk, including for remote employees and contractors

  • Partner with local finance teams and advisors on in-country corporate income tax, VAT and GST (value-added and goods-and-services tax) and lending-specific tax rules in each country where Tilt operates

  • Lead the tax workstream when Tilt enters a new country: entity and structure choices, registrations, advisor selection and the first year of filings

  • Respond to tax notices, inquiries and audits in every jurisdiction

Advise the business

  • Be the first call for tax questions from Finance, Legal, Compliance, People and Product

  • Review new products, pricing, fees, market entries, acquisitions and entity changes for tax impact before launch

  • Advise on equity compensation and payroll tax for a global workforce, working with People

  • Track tax law changes in each market and explain what they mean for Tilt in plain language

Build the function

  • Document tax processes and controls that meet audit standards

  • Improve how tax data flows from NetSuite and other finance systems

  • Look for planning opportunities that reduce Tilt's global tax cost within our risk appetite

Why You’re a Great Fit
  • 8+ years of corporate tax experience, combining a Big 4 or national accounting firm with in-house work at a multinational company

  • Hands-on experience with US international tax (GILTI, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, Forms 5471 and 5472) and transfer pricing

  • Strong ASC 740 tax provision experience, including foreign entities

  • A track record of managing and reviewing outside tax advisors across several countries

  • Working knowledge of US federal and state tax, and the judgment to know when to bring in a specialist

  • Ability to explain tax issues clearly to non-tax colleagues and leadership

  • Comfort working independently as a team of one in a fast-paced company, across time zones

  • Helpful but not required: experience with consumer lending, banking or fintech, including tax treatment of interest, fees and credit losses; tax experience in Latin American or Asian markets; experience integrating acquired foreign companies; experience with NetSuite

Don’t meet every qualification? We care about potential over your past. If you're bringing ambition and drive to what we're building, we want to hear from you.

You’re pushing ahead in your career? We can get behind that. Join us in building the credit system that people deserve.
