About Speakeasy

Speakeasy began in the developer tooling space by building a toolchain for powering API developer experience. With the rise of AI and since the launch of MCP, we have expanded into helping teams build, secure, observe, and distribute AI tools across their organization.

Our customers today include leading tech companies and fortune 100 enterprises such as Mistral AI, Vercel, PlanetScale, Verizon, and Docusign.

We were founded in 2021 and have already hit important revenue milestones. We have raised funding from top-notch VC and angel investors who share our vision, and have significant runway remaining.

Our team is split between San Francisco and London, with offices in both locations. We work best together in person. This role is based in our San Francisco office four days a week, with one day remote. We meet up and spend a week together roughly every quarter.

About the role

We're hiring a Growth Engineer to sit at the intersection of engineering and marketing. This is an early-career role built for someone who can write code and write words — and wants to use both to drive how a technical product gets discovered, understood, and adopted.

You'll work directly with engineering to understand what we're building, then use that knowledge to create content, run experiments, build launch assets, and grow our presence with developers and technical leaders. You're not a traditional marketer — you're someone who thinks like an engineer but wants to have an outsized impact on how the product reaches the world.

What matters most is attitude. We want someone who ships before they feel ready, learns from what doesn't work, and keeps going. You'll have real ownership from day one. If you're the kind of person who gets an idea on a Tuesday and has something live by Thursday, this role is for you.

This role is ideal for a recent CS grad or early-career engineer who's curious about the business side of software and wants a path that combines technical depth with creative and strategic work.

What you'll own

  • Technical content creation: blog posts, deep-dives, code examples, launch announcements, and documentation-style explainers

  • Growth experiments: building and testing ideas for how we acquire, activate, and retain developers

  • Social media and community presence for product launches and ongoing developer storytelling

  • Launch assets end-to-end: from announcement blog to website updates to sales collateral

  • Sales and customer-facing enablement: decks, battlecards, demo scripts, and competitive positioning

  • Close collaboration with engineering to understand the product deeply and surface what matters to a technical audience

  • Customer and prospect research to sharpen positioning and identify messages that resonate with technical leaders

What we're looking for

  • A CS degree or equivalent engineering background — you can read and write code, follow architecture discussions, and go deep on technical concepts

  • Fluency with coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) and a habit of using them to move faster

  • Strong writing skills — technical writing, engineering blog posts, documentation, or anything that shows you can make complex ideas clear

  • Genuine interest in developer tools, APIs, or AI products. You follow the space and have opinions about it

  • Comfort working autonomously in a fast-moving environment with broad scope and no playbook

  • A bias toward action. You'd rather ship something imperfect and learn than wait for the perfect plan

  • Genuine curiosity and a hunger to learn fast. You're comfortable not knowing things as long as you're figuring them out

  • Low ego, high output. You're happy to do whatever it takes to move the needle

Nice to have

  • Prior internship or work experience in engineering, growth, or developer relations

  • Experience with design tools (Figma) and basic video/motion work

  • Background contributing to technical open-source projects or developer communities

  • Any prior exposure to marketing, growth experiments, or analytics

Benefits
  • Salary Range ~$160K - $190K

  • Generous equity

  • 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) plan

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Lunch provided in office from some of the best restaurants in San Francisco!

  • Annual off-sites with the entire team (previous locations: 2024 - Lisbon, 2025 - Mexico City, 2026 - Madrid!)

  • Work with a fun, collaborative, ambitious team

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
