Goodfire is a research company using interpretability to understand, learn from, and design AI systems. Our mission is to build the next generation of safe and powerful AI—not by scaling alone, but by understanding the intelligence we're building.
Scaling has proven powerful, but today's approach is fundamentally limited: we can't meaningfully understand, debug, or shape what models learn. Every engineering discipline has been gated by fundamental science and AI is at that inflection point now.
We're advancing the science of how AI systems actually work. Treating models as black boxes is an unnecessary handicap—we have access to the structures inside them, and understanding those structures lets us steer what models learn, make them safer and more useful, and extract the vast knowledge they contain. Our goal is to make AI that can be understood, debugged, and shaped like software.
Goodfire is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco with a team of the world’s top interpretability researchers and engineers from organizations like OpenAI and DeepMind. We're backed by over $200M from B Capital, Menlo Ventures, Lightspeed, Eric Schmidt, and others.
We are seeking a technical GTM Lead to own pipeline generation at the top of our sales funnel. You will be our first GTM hire and will have the chance to create and grow the market for interpretability, starting with strong signal from enterprises and scientific domains. You should also be a focused operator who can assess markets and identify the most important opportunities, drive outreach and hold events with GenAI leaders and Heads AI and R&D, thrive in ambiguity, and get the CEO a meeting with any potential customer.
Key responsibilities:
- Customer outreach - own customer and partner outreach (emails, events, contacts) to generate leads.
- Pipeline ownership - grow and manage the top of our sales funnel.
- Create sales and product marketing materials (pitches, proposals, decks) to share with leads to drive deal closure and growth.
- GTM planning - analyze markets and TAM, identify driving customer problems, and prioritize the most promising customers.
Who you are
- A technical, scrappy GTM builder who thrives in zero-to-one environments and ambiguity.
- Someone who has built pipeline from scratch before without a big brand, inbound engine, or mature sales team.
- Comfortable running technical discovery and early sales conversations with skeptical ML researchers, GenAI leaders, and Heads of AI/R&D.
- Able to translate deep interpretability research into clear customer value without hype, for both technical and executive audiences.
- High-touch by default: you’re great at precise outbound, relationship building, and small, high signal exec events/roundtables.
- Experiment minded: hypothesize ICPs/pains, run fast tests, measure results, and iterate quickly.
What you’ll bringRequired experience
- 3-5+ years of leadership experience in GTM, sales, business development at a high-growth startup.
- Track record of building and scaling GTM in a startup or fast-growth environment.
- Technical degree or equivalent professional experience, and a strong understanding of deep neural networks.
- Demonstrated scrappiness, willingness to persist in ambiguity, ability to learn quickly, and a generalist “can-do” mindset.
- Helpful (but not required): experience leading and closing $1M+ ACV enterprise deals.
Goodfire is looking for individuals who embody our values and share our deep commitment to making interpretability accessible. We are building a team first and foremost.
