About Tapestry

Tapestry is a group within Google working to build the AI-powered electric grid. We are tackling one of the world’s most important infrastructure challenges: helping the energy system become more visible, understandable, reliable, affordable, abundant, and clean.

Originally born at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, Tapestry brings together experts in energy, AI, software engineering, and products to build tools that help the electricity ecosystem plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently.

This is a global effort. Tapestry supports partners across the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil as they work toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

Joining Tapestry means doing high-impact work with a multidisciplinary team tackling a problem that matters at global scale. Learn more about our team and our mission here.

About the Role

As Head of Brand & Communications, you will shape Tapestry's voice, narrative, and reputation as we build a new technology category at the intersection of AI and the electric grid.

Reporting directly to the CEO as a strategic thought-partner, you will lead our brand and communications strategy across a diverse set of audiences, including utility and enterprise customers, policymakers and industry leaders, employees, Alphabet stakeholders, investors, and the broader public.

You'll partner closely with leaders across Product, Engineering, Commercial, and Policy to turn complex technical ideas into clear, credible, and compelling stories. This is a highly strategic, hands-on role for a player-coach who can move seamlessly between advising executives, shaping company positioning, and personally doing the writing and storytelling required to bring that strategy to life.

How You Will Make 10X Impact

  • Define and strengthen Tapestry's narrative and positioning as we establish a new category at the intersection of AI, software, and the electric grid.
  • Build Tapestry's reputation, influence, and credibility as a trusted industry authority directly and efficiently, leveraging modern communication channels rather than reflexively hiring a large agency.
  • Deeply understand how ideas and information travel today. Design and execute modern communication strategies that span social platforms, creator networks, podcasts, newsletters, niche communities, and executive voice, alongside traditional media relations.
  • Translate complex technology into compelling stories by partnering with Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams to make sophisticated technical concepts clear, credible, and relevant to customers and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a strategic thought-partner and communications advisor to the CEO and leadership team, shaping executive positioning, thought leadership, key company narratives, and communications during high-impact moments.
  • Strengthen Tapestry's connection with employees by building clear internal communication rhythms that connect teams to our mission, strategy, priorities, and progress.
  • Lead corporate and stakeholder communications, partnering with Alphabet and company leadership to clearly articulate Tapestry's progress, strategy, differentiation, and business impact.
  • Protect and strengthen Tapestry's reputation by developing thoughtful communications strategies for complex issues involving technology, data privacy, security, regulation, and other high-stakes matters.

What You Should Have

  • Intellectual Agility & Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to quickly develop fluency in complex technical or unfamiliar domains and translate that understanding into effective communications strategy. Prior fluency in grid technology or deep energy expertise is not required.
  • Startup or Founder-Led Success: Demonstrated success in startup, entrepreneurial, or founder-led environments, with a proven track record of translating complex technical narratives to broader audiences.
  • Modern Media Fluency: A deep understanding of how ideas move in the modern ecosystem, with practical experience engaging audiences via social, creators, podcasts, newsletters, communities, and executive platforms, not just traditional press.
  • Player-Coach Mindset: Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic advisor to senior executives while remaining hands-on in developing messaging, content, and communications.
  • Exceptional Writing & Storytelling: A high bar for clarity, accuracy, and credibility, with the ability to turn complex technical details into a compelling story.
  • Executive Advisory Experience: Demonstrated success serving as a trusted advisor to a CEO or senior executive team, particularly in positioning them for high-stakes moments and navigating complex communications challenges.
  • A Resourceful & Agency-Light Approach: Ability to build broad influence and credibility organically and creatively, without immediately relying on large, expensive agency support.

It'd Be Great If You Also Had

  • An interest in or exposure to deep tech, enterprise software, AI, or other highly technical domains.
  • Experience building or repositioning an emerging technology category.
  • Experience with public-sector stakeholders, policy, or regulatory communications.

Tapestry Values

  • Take charge: We take initiative and own outcomes that move the mission forward.
  • Transform with purpose: We build solutions that solve real problems and create meaningful impact.
  • Be a Tapestry, not a thread: We collaborate across diverse skills and perspectives to achieve more than we can individually.
  • Always fine-tune: We stay curious, seek feedback, and refine our understanding as we learn.
  • Stay grounded: We listen openly, value different perspectives, and stay focused on what matters most.

What We Offer

A culture that supports growth, ownership, and meaningful impact, along with:

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and flexible hybrid work model
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Professional development
  • The ability to work on important real-world problems within an Alphabet-backed environment
