About AfterQuery

AfterQuery is an applied research lab curating data solutions for foundation model development.

We serve every frontier AI lab with the mission of delivering the best data to power the best models. In doing so, we can make expertise that once took a lifetime to build available to anyone who needs it. Our customers are the ones building the foundation models themselves and our work sits directly in the loop of how those systems improve.

This is a rare opportunity to join a company at a defining moment in AI. Since raising our $30M Series A at a $300M valuation, AfterQuery has grown well over a $100M revenue run rate.

We're based in San Francisco and backed by leading investors including Altos Ventures, BoxGroup, and Y Combinator and angels from Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta Superintelligence Labs, and Microsoft AI.

About the Role

As Head of Growth, you will own one of the company's most important strategic assets: the supply side of our marketplace. The systems you build will directly determine our ability to serve customers, launch new products, enter new domains, and maintain our quality advantage.

This role sits at the intersection of growth, product, engineering, recruiting, and operations. Early on, you'll develop the playbooks yourself. Over time, you'll partner closely with engineering to transform those playbooks into software, automation, and scalable systems, all towards the end of creating a repeatable engine that can identify, recruit, and retain exceptional talent globally.

We're looking for someone who is excited by ambiguity, willing to operate at every level of the stack, and motivated by creating a lasting competitive advantage in one of the most important industries of the next decade. Someone who is fascinated by determining, and executing on, the answers to questions like:

  • How do we identify signal and predict contributor quality before an expert has completed a single project?

  • What acquisition channels can scale from hundreds of experts to tens of thousands without sacrificing quality?

  • How do we build a contributor experience that top professionals actively recommend to their peers?

  • How do we forecast supply needs before demand arrives?

  • How do we transform operational playbooks into productized systems that become a durable competitive advantage?

  • How do we build a talent network that becomes more valuable, more efficient, and harder to replicate with every new expert who joins?

What You Will Own

Build the Expert Network
  • Design and execute the strategy for sourcing expert independent contractors across professional domains

  • Develop scalable acquisition channels for highly qualified talent

  • Build systems for identifying and targeting professionals in specific industries, geographies, and specialties

  • Create repeatable playbooks for recruiting niche expert populations on demand

  • Optimize funnel performance from sourcing through activation

  • Measure expert satisfaction and lead the team in ensuring experts are unblocked and satisfied with their experience

Build Growth Infrastructure
  • Partner closely with Engineering to build internal growth tools and automation systems

  • Design scalable workflows for sourcing, outreach, qualification, onboarding, and engagement

  • Develop experimentation frameworks and growth loops

  • Create data systems that improve acquisition efficiency over time

  • Reduce manual operational effort through automation and productization

Marketplace Operations
  • Forecast supply needs based on customer and project demand

  • Ensure the right experts are available at the right time and quality level

  • Develop segmentation, matching, and workforce planning systems

  • Monitor marketplace health metrics and capacity constraints

Build and Lead a Team
  • Recruit and manage a high-performing team of growth associates

  • Coach managers and individual contributors

  • Build a culture of urgency, ownership, and continuous improvement

Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to prioritize systems that improve scalability

  • Work with Operations to improve contributor quality and retention

  • Collaborate with Leadership on company growth strategy and expansion into new expert categories

What Success Looks Like

Within 6-12 months, you have:

  • Built a rapidly growing network of high-quality professional contributors

  • Reduced acquisition costs while increasing activation rates

  • Established predictable supply generation across multiple expert categories

  • Built a team that can execute independently

  • Replaced significant portions of manual recruiting and operations with scalable systems and automation

  • Created a defensible talent acquisition engine that becomes more efficient as it grows

What We Are Looking For
  • 6+ years of experience in growth, recruiting, talent marketplace, operations, or related functions; direct experience building talent marketplaces, labor marketplaces, or expert networks is preferred

  • Experience partnering deeply with engineering and product teams; high technical aptitude / understanding

  • Experience building and scaling systems rather than simply executing processes

  • Strong analytical and operational capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to hire and lead high-performing teams

  • Exceptional execution velocity and willingness to operate hands-on

  • Strong ownership mentality and bias toward action

Compensation and Benefits
  • The total compensation package is competitive and commensurate with experience and candidacy.

  • Comprehensive benefits (UberEats and ride share stipend, comped Equinox, 401K with match, health, dental, and vision insurance)
