Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- The Health Information Management Data Integrity Specialist performs specialized HIM activities maintaining an accurate electronic health record (EHR) and associated databases under the direction of the HIM Manager or designated supervisor which includes but is not limited to Master Patient Index management, fraud investigations, chart corrections, patient requests to amend medical records, investigation and resolution of wrong patient registrations, HIM management of the Health Information Exchange and transcription oversight such as new template creation.
- The HIM Data Integrity Specialist will investigate and resolve all assigned issues reported via EHR work queues, user reported issues and/or patient reported issues in a timely manner.
- Performs necessary functions to ensure one patient has one MRN across the EHR.
- Answers telephone and responds according to department policy.
- Keeps supervisor informed of issues/concerns that may arise.
- Seeks out additional tasks when assigned work is completed; provides backup coverage for other positions in the HIM department.
- Meets quality and/or productivity expectations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of clerical experience required including working with calculations and phone systems.
- Basic experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
- Additionally, the following are department specific requirements:
- One year of medical record experience required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy preferred.
