Binti builds software for state and county government agencies, focusing on reinventing social services. We started in child welfare, with the mission of helping every child have a safe, loving, and stable family. To date, we’ve helped approve more than 100,000 families to foster or adopt, and we support over 46% of the nation’s child welfare system. We have expanded our product offerings in child welfare, moving more to the root of the problem, helping families stay together and avoid separation, and are now expanding horizontally across other areas in social services.

Binti is a for-profit, mission-driven software company based in San Francisco, CA. Investors include Founders Fund, First Round Capital, Kapor Capital, and others. We’re a team of ~90 people and growing quickly. We care about creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can bring their full self to work. We have a huge, ambitious vision to rewire government to be more effective in expanding opportunities for people around the world, and we are looking for mission-driven, high-empathy, high-performance, and low-ego team members to join us on our exciting journey towards that vision.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

We’re seeking technically sharp, customer-focused engineers who are eager to collaborate closely with our partners to design and deliver integrations that maximize the full value of the Binti platform. As an Integrations Software Engineer and part of the Integrations Engineering team, you’ll take ownership of high-impact, externally-facing technical projects — from discovery and architecture sessions to launch. Strong candidates combine deep engineering experience with excellent communication skills, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in dynamic and ambiguous environments.

LOCATION

Binti is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Much of our team is local to the San Francisco Bay Area and works via a hybrid setup – in-person from the office on Monday & Thursday and remote otherwise. Satellite offices, like Seattle, Washington, set their own in-office days and hybrid policies, but in general employees are encouraged to join the leadership team on the days when they will be in the office for collaboration and team cohesion.

A part of this position involves supporting our customers on their integration journey, and therefore, this job includes occasional travel to customer locations (approximately once a month). Opportunities to go on-site with our customers will include design and discovery sessions, co-development work, and technical onboarding.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead architecture discussions during integration development to ensure that they are built in a sound, reliable, and performant way

  • Optimize and improve the tools that our Binti’s internal delivery teams and our customers use to do their day-to-day work

  • Full Stack coding, 80% back end and 20% front end

  • Mentor other engineers on best practices for software engineering

  • Optimize the performance of integration pipelines, APIs, and components for both latency and throughput

  • Participate in discovery and architecture sessions with customers to ensure that integrations are designed to support our customers needs, best leverage the Binti platform, and be performant, secure, and scalable.

  • Build integration pipelines and APIs that are stable, performant, and scalable, and monitor them to ensure that they are operating properly

  • Work directly with our customers’ development teams, in person or virtually, to provide them live support and consulting as they integrate with the Binti platform and APIs.

  • Provide integration support to our customers, answering questions, offering consultative advice, and assisting them in debugging their integrations.

  • Synthesize and deliver product feedback to enable us to use it to improve Binti’s modules and integration capabilities.

  • Collaborate with Product Management to scope and execute product features while maintaining Binti’s values.

  • Focus on the longevity of the codebase - notice and advocate for patterns that allow code to be flexible, scalable, and approachable to other engineers

  • Help our team move quickly and learn while maintaining a welcoming and supportive culture

  • Push our product so it continues to be a beautiful, yet intuitive and accessible interface for users from all walks of life

  • Champion security and privacy, including looking for ways to make it easier to safeguard HIPAA compliance for sensitive data and incorporate security best practices.

SAMPLE PROJECTS

  • Join other members of the Binti team in meetings with a new customer to understand how Binti will fit into their workflow and information architecture, and then use that knowledge to design an integration using Binti’s APIs or connectors that meets their needs.

  • Collaborate side-by-side, virtually or in-person, with a customer who is integrating with Binti, providing them live support during co-development.

  • Develop new API endpoints, connectors, or other integration tools to improve and extend our integration capabilities

  • Respond to questions and support requests from customers with existing integrations to debug, triage, and fix issues that are discovered post-launch.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You have at least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in a customer-facing role such as an integrations engineer, consultant, or similar.

  • You possess a strong startup mindset, being comfortable with ambiguity, balancing risks, and building MVPs that are iterated upon.

  • You’re familiar with legacy systems (even better in the government context) and the difficulties and tradeoffs that come with working with them.

  • You have the ability to architect, build, and maintain distributed integrated systems.

  • You’re comfortable with APIs, data pipelines (ETL), enterprise data warehouses (EDW), and all their friends.

  • You possess the experience and ability to effectively manage your own work and time.

  • You excel at collaborating with cross-functional partners in product, program management, sales, and other areas.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT YOU

  • You’re energized by working with customers to solve real-world problems, not just closing out engineering tickets.

  • You have the ability to visualize how a big software system like ours works, but also think about how it interacts at the edges with our customers’ software systems

  • You have a history of not only shipping code and products, but also making customers happy

  • You have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • You’re experienced and confident with Ruby/Ruby on Rails, but also comfortable in other programming languages like Python, C#, Java, etc.

  • You’re a quick learner who is motivated by up-leveling your skills and taking on new challenges

  • You’re interested in the boundless possibilities of Gen AI, with experience and judgment in that area being a significant advantage.

BENEFITS & PERKS

  • An above-market compensation package (salary + equity)

  • Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life insurance - 99% of insurance premiums covered for you + your dependents

  • Flexible vacation time to promote a healthy work-life blend

  • 13 paid holidays; 11 federally observed holidays (including Juneteenth), plus Election Day and the day after Thanksgiving

  • 16 weeks of paid parental bonding leave for the arrival of a newborn or newly placed infant

  • Sick/mental health time separate from vacation days (accrue up to a cap of 160 hours)

  • 4 weeks of sabbatical after 4 years of service at the company

  • 401k, Commuter benefits, FSA, and DCSA with administration paid for

  • $5,000 annual bonus for employees who volunteer as a CASA (court-appointed special advocates)

  • $2,500 annual reimbursement for ongoing learning and development, with opportunities to attend trainings/conferences, on-site speaker series, and lunch and learns

  • $300 reimbursement for initial office setup

  • $50 a month effective work reimbursement to cover internet, electricity, office setup costs, or lunch/snacks with coworkers

  • Paid jury duty

We welcome all qualified applicants to apply without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, or protected Veteran status.
