We are seeking a highly motivated Intern to join our Pharmacology group at Cytokinetics. The intern will work closely with a Pharmacology Researcher to conduct and manage in vivo and in vitro experiments related to the efficacy of novel small molecule compounds for potential therapies of muscular degenerative diseases. The intern will work closely with a Pharmacology Researcher to conduct and manage in vivo and in vitro experiments related to the efficacy of novel small molecule compounds in skeletal and cardiac muscle diseases. The intern will gain practical experience in animal handling and pharmacology workflows. The intern will develop technical skills in molecular assays and data analysis, as well as an understanding of pharmacology study design and execution. In addition, the intern will gain exposure to the broader drug discovery process through collaboration, presentations, and cross-functional interactions.
This is an onsite internship. Candidates must be able to work in person at the South San Francisco office.

Responsibilities:
Own and execute an independent molecular pharmacology project using archived in vivo study samples
Generate and analyze data using a defined molecular technique (e.g., ELISA or Western blot)
Interpret results to address a focused biological question and inform future research directions
Assist with ongoing in vivo studies to gain experience with pharmacology workflows, including animal handling, weighing, and data recording
Complete required training to achieve Level 2 proficiency in mouse handling, restraint, tissue collection, and sample processing
Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to data summaries and presentations
Participate in Pharmacology team meetings and collaborative discussions
Deliver at least two presentations: a project overview early in the internship and a final presentation summarizing findings at the conclusion of the program
Qualifications:
Have completed at least two to four years at a US college or university at the time of the program, majoring in a science related discipline.
Basic lab skills (e.g. pipetting, preparing physiological buffers, etc.) and prior coursework in biology and/or physiology is required.
Prior animal handling experience or a willingness to learn and handle rodents is desired.
Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
Excellent communication skills and the ability to troubleshoot problems with team members
Basic computer skills, including experience with data management and presentation

Pay Range:
In the U.S., the hiring pay range for fully qualified candidates is $22-$25/hr. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.Our employees come from different backgrounds, and we celebrate those differences.
