About the company

Braintrust is the AI observability platform. By connecting evals and observability in one workflow, Braintrust gives builders the visibility to understand how AI behaves in production and the tools to improve it.

Teams at Notion, Stripe, Zapier, Vercel, and Ramp use Braintrust to compare models, test prompts, and catch regressions — turning production data into better AI with every release.

About the role

We are looking for our first IT Systems Engineer to join Braintrust. You will design, implement, and operate the infrastructure that keeps our team productive and our data secure as we scale past 100 people.

This is an in-person San Francisco based role.

What you’ll do
  • Design and deploy a scalable, zero-trust IT and security foundation that supports a high-performance, engineering-driven organization

  • Implement and manage a unified identity and access platform, including SSO, role-based access controls, and MFA across SaaS tools and cloud environments

  • Own the full lifecycle of our internal technology stack, including tool selection, onboarding, access management, automation of offboarding, and cost optimization

  • Establish baseline IT and security policies, documentation, and controls appropriate for a fast-growing startup

  • Build and operate incident response processes, including logging, alerting, and clear playbooks for handling security events

  • Identify gaps, manual processes, or security risks and proactively fix them without needing direction

What you'll bring
  • You are deeply hands-on and comfortable owning systems end-to-end, not just coordinating vendors

  • You have strong experience with modern IT tooling such as MDM (Jamf or Kandji), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and identity providers (Okta, Google, or similar)

  • You understand that for a fast-moving AI company, security must be automated, integrated into workflows, and designed to scale

  • You thrive in ambiguous environments and are energized by building something from scratch
You have ideally been the first or early IT or Security hire at a high-growth startup

  • You can translate complex technical and security requirements into clear, actionable guidance for the rest of the company

Benefits include
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Daily lunch, snacks, and beverages

  • Flexible time off

  • Competitive salary and equity

  • AI Stipend

Equal opportunity

Braintrust is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
