Each year, 2.5 trillion hours are spent on household chores. At Matic, we’re on a mission to recapture that lost time, and we’re doing it by revolutionizing home robotics.
Our first product, also called Matic, is a Wall-E-esque floor cleaning robot. We've built what amounts to "full self-driving in the home” with real-time 3D mapping, adaptive path-tracking, and a precise semantic understanding of the home. Our breakthroughs in spatial AI allow Matic to work reliably in real homes, using only RGB cameras and neural networks running on-device.
Privacy FirstWhat happens in the home, stays in the home. Our robots are private by design, with all data processing performed by the robot itself, not in the cloud.
Our ApproachBefore the iPhone, consumers adopted several distinct devices; cell phones, PDAs, and portable music players each served a particular need. We believe in a similar progression for home robotics, starting with single-purpose robots and building iteratively toward more complex capabilities over time.
Our CultureMatic is a tight-knit and collaborative team, singularly focused on building products our customers will cherish. We're ultra-hardworking people committed to solving tough problems that save precious time and energy.
About the roleAs a Quality Engineer at Matic, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring that our autonomous home robots meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Based in Mountain View, California, you’ll work closely with our production, engineering, and product teams to design and implement quality control processes that uphold Matic’s commitment to delivering elegant and dependable robotic solutions. This full-time role offers the chance to shape the quality framework of a fast-growing startup, directly impacting the experience of families who rely on our products.
Matic’s hardware team is meticulous, collaborative, and driven by a passion for robotics excellence. If you’re detail-oriented, thrive on solving complex challenges, and are excited to ensure our Wall-E-esque robots exceed expectations, we’d love to talk to you.
What you'll do:
Develop, implement, and perform quality assurance processes to evaluate the performance, durability, and safety of Matic’s robotic products.
Conduct root cause analysis on defects or failures, collaborating with engineering teams to design effective solutions and prevent recurrence.
Design and execute testing protocols, including functional, stress, and environmental tests, to validate product reliability.
Serve as the primary owner of Non-Conforming Inventory (NCI), including tracking, segregation, disposition, rework, and reuse activities.
Conduct root cause analysis for NCI issues and drive corrective and preventive actions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Work closely with Production to implement and maintain the NCI counting and reconciliation process, ensuring accuracy and process compliance.
Monitor production processes to identify quality risks, recommending improvements to enhance consistency and efficiency.
Establish and maintain quality metrics, tracking performance data to drive continuous improvement across manufacturing and design.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, adapting processes to meet evolving requirements.
Work cross-functionally to integrate quality checkpoints into hardware and software development lifecycles.
Document quality procedures, creating clear guidelines and training materials for production teams to follow.
What we look for:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
Preferred 2+ years of experience in hardware engineering, ideally in consumer electronics, robotics, or manufacturing environments.
Strong understanding of quality control methodologies and tools, including Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, and standard inspection techniques.
Demonstrated analytical mindset with hands-on experience in structured problem-solving and root cause analysis, including FMEA, 8D, fishbone diagrams, hypothesis testing, and Design of Experiments (DoE).
Minimum of 1 year of experience supporting Quality Systems and NPI activities, including PPAP/APQP execution, statistical process control, and data-driven quality decision-making.
Proficiency with tools like statistical software, CAD, or quality management systems; familiarity with robotics hardware or software is a plus.
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, balancing technical expertise with clear communication.
Proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and a passion for delivering flawless products.
Comfortable thriving in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities can shift quickly.
We'd love to hear from you if...
You’re genuinely motivated to help those around you and take pride in building products that improve lives.
You’re passionate about digging into technical challenges and finding elegant solutions.
You love ensuring every detail is right, knowing it makes a difference for customers and teammates alike.
You’re excited to do impactful work that pushes the boundaries of home robotics.
