The Position:

The Lab Manager will be responsible for day-to-day laboratory operations, equipment and reagent/consumables management, inventory and sample tracking systems, and implementation of scalable processes to support Veracyte’s growing diagnostics pipeline. This role supports a multidisciplinary technical team and ensures that our lab operates smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with Veracyte’s quality and safety standards.  While based in SSF, this individual will coordinate with and contribute to lab management in our San Diego-based Product Development lab to foster efficient collaboration and development activities across sites.

Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Operations & Infrastructure
  • Maintain a highly organized, inspection ready molecular biology lab that enables efficient execution of Product Development studies.
  • Oversee daily lab operations, including bench organization, shared space management, and lab workflow optimization.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs for lab processes in partnership with Product Development and Quality.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline operations and drive continuous improvement consistent with Veracyte’s culture of innovation.
  • Build or enhance digital tools (inventory systems, tracking databases) to support scalable lab operations.
Materials & Equipment Management
  • Build and maintain a robust inventory of reagents, consumables, kits, and critical supplies to prevent workflow interruptions.
  • Develop efficient systems for inventory tracking, demand forecasting, and purchasing, aligned with Veracyte’s procurement processes
  • Oversee the entire reagent, consumable, and equipment purchasing process including vendor engagement and relationship management, comparative quote assessment and negotiation, tracking deliveries, and budget tracking and management.
  • Where feasible, develop and/or align processes for inventory and vendor management across SSF and SD Product Development labs
  • Partner with Equipment Engineering to ensure laboratory equipment is fully operational, and that necessary preventative maintenance and calibrations are up to date.
Sample & Test Material Management
  • Design, implement, and maintain systems or databases to track experimental samples, patient derived materials, and test articles used in assay development.
  • Ensure chain of custody integrity and maintain accurate sample histories to support regulated diagnostic development.
  • Collaborate with scientists to coordinate sample availability across multiple studies and pipelines.
Safety & Compliance
  • Serve as the laboratory safety lead; partner with EHS to promote a culture of operational excellence and safety.
  • Maintain chemical inventories, safety data sheets (SDS), biosafety documentation, and waste management programs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (OSHA, biosafety best practices, ISO aligned processes).
  • Support internal audits or documentation requests by Quality, Regulatory, or cross-functional teams.
Team Enablement & Support
  • Provide hands on operational support to product development scientists to minimize downtime and maximize scientific throughput.
  • Train new team members on lab practices, equipment use, inventory systems, and safety procedures.
  • Support coordination of development activities that span Product Development teams in SSF and San Diego, including shipping of materials and samples and alignment of methodologies
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, patient centered culture consistent with Veracyte’s values.
Who You Are:QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 6–7+ years of lab management or lab operations experience in molecular biology, diagnostics, or biotech R&D.
  • Strong working knowledge of molecular biology techniques (PCR, NGS workflows, nucleic acid handling, assay development) and typical high-throughput automated equipment (Hamilton, Tecan, Thermo)
  • Demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations, equipment, and reagent inventories in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience designing or managing lab operational systems or databases (inventory tools, LIMS modules, tracking systems).
  • Outstanding organization, communication, and follow‑through.
Preferred
  • Experience in a diagnostics or regulated product development environment.
  • Familiarity with processes supporting IVD development or ISO 13485‑style workflows.
  • Experience supporting labs during scale‑up or expansion phases.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

$140,000$173,000 USD
