About this Role

Ampacity is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to lead the rebuild and modernization of our data platform. This hands-on role will design and implement a scalable Azure and Databricks-based lakehouse that supports reporting, analytics, and business growth.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Technology, this person will own the platform’s technical direction and help hire and mentor future data team members as the function grows.

Pay Range: $120,000 - $130,000
Hybrid Model: 1-2 days at Georgia Technology Office (or remote)

What You'll Do

  • Lead the rebuild of Ampacity’s data platform from design through implementation
  • Stabilize and maintain existing Azure Data Factory pipelines while leading their migration into the new Databricks lakehouse
  • Develop a Databricks lakehouse using Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and bronze/silver/gold architecture
  • Design data models that accurately track changes over time
  • Build data transformation and integration logic using SQL and Python
  • Set standards for version control, testing, documentation, and deployments
  • Partner with business and technology teams to understand their data needs
  • Monitor data quality and troubleshoot pipeline or performance issues
  • Lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers
  • Help hire and develop future data team members as the function grows
  • Take on additional responsibilities as the role evolves and new learning and growth opportunities come up

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience
  • Strong experience designing pipelines in Azure Data Factory
  • Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and medallion architecture
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with Python or another scripting language
  • A solid understanding of data modeling and historical data tracking — able to design data pipelines that accurately reflect how data changes over time
  • Experience building or moving to a modern lakehouse from ADF, SSIS, Informatica, or a similar ETL tool
  • Experience using Git-based version control for data pipelines or ETL code
  • Experience leading projects and helping junior engineers grow
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with ERP systems is a plus—NetSuite is preferred, but SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics experience is also helpful
  • Experience with Power BI, CI/CD, modern data transformation tools, or managed ingestion tools such as Fivetran, Estuary, or Airbyte is a plus
  • Experience leading a greenfield build or major data platform rebuild is strongly preferred

What You'll Get

  • Competitive pay and 401k — because your work should be rewarded fairly
  • Time off you'll actually use: vacation, sick days, holidays, parental, and bereavement leave
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus extra support when you need it
  • Wellness resources to help you show up as your best self, at work and at home
  • Real room to grow — we promote from within and invest in your development
