Job Description

About The Role

The Lead Electrical Engineer (Illumination) is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of roadway lighting systems for complex projects. This role provides technical leadership, ensures compliance with industry and municipal standards, and manages project deliverables from concept to completion.

The Lead Electrical Engineer coordinates multidisciplinary teams, conducts design reviews, and participates in field inspections and client meetings. The position also mentors junior staff, supports quality assurance, and drives continuous improvement, delivering innovative and reliable traffic signal solutions that meet client and project objectives.

Job Description

  • Lead the design and implementation of electrical systems for Infrastructure projects, including highway lighting.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, specifications, and reports in accordance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into larger projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and design teams.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, local codes, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in client and project meetings, providing valuable input and insights.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Electrical department through the review and development of standards and templates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator (i.e. PEO)
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and managing highway and municipal roadway illumination 
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including CEC and other local and international standards.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, and other electrical design software is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with both internal teams and external clients.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and mentor teams.

Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred but not requid):

  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient design practices.
  • Experience working with Hydro authorities 
  • Experience in lighting calculation softwares ( AGI32 , Autolux )
