SUMMARY

The Lead IBM i / Power Systems Engineer provides advanced technical leadership for our enterprise IBM Power and IBM i environment supporting mission-critical ERP and business applications. This role owns the health, performance, security, and evolution of the platform across IBM Power hardware, IBM i OS, HMC, VIOS, storage, and high-availability technologies.

As a senior technical resource, you will balance hands-on platform engineering and operational support with modernization, advancing automation, observability, security, and infrastructure best practices across the IBM i ecosystem.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex operational issues, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security across IBM Power and IBM i environments.

  • Provide end-to-end engineering and administration of IBM Power infrastructure, including IBM i OS partitions, HMC, VIOS, PowerVM/LPARs, hardware, virtualization, storage, and related platform technologies.

  • Administer and optimize IBM i environments, including system configuration, patching/PTFs, upgrades, capacity planning, performance management, and lifecycle activities.

  • Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize VIOS and Power virtualization technologies supporting enterprise workloads.

  • Support IBM Power hardware lifecycle management, firmware maintenance, capacity planning, and platform upgrades.

  • Design, test, maintain, and support high-availability and disaster recovery solutions to ensure ERP availability and business continuity.

  • Advance infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, CL scripting, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to streamline patching, compliance, and recurring operational activities.

  • Drive adoption of modern observability and AIOps practices to improve platform visibility, reduce alert noise, accelerate incident response, and proactively identify performance and reliability risks.

  • Strengthen IBM i platform security through system hardening, access controls, vulnerability remediation, compliance automation, and security best practices.

  • Partner across application, database, storage, network, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to resolve complex issues and support platform modernization.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to engineers and other technology partners.

  • Evaluate emerging IBM Power and IBM i capabilities and recommend opportunities to improve platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience administering and supporting IBM i OS and IBM Power Systems in enterprise production environments.

  • Experience administering and troubleshooting IBM Power hardware, IBM i OS, HMC, LPARs/PowerVM, and VIOS.

  • Experience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery solutions within an IBM i environment.

  • Experience with IBM i system administration, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, patching/PTFs, upgrades, and capacity management.

  • Experience with CL or other scripting used to automate IBM i administration.

  • Strong understanding of ITIL processes, incident and change management, and stakeholder communication.

  • Strong technical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and support planned after-hours maintenance, patching, and platform upgrades.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience administering IBM i OS and IBM Power Systems.

  • Experience with MIMIX or comparable IBM i high-availability and disaster recovery technologies.

  • Experience with IBM DS-series or other enterprise storage and backup technologies supporting IBM Power and IBM i environments.

  • Experience with Ansible, Infrastructure-as-Code, or other configuration and infrastructure automation technologies.

  • Experience implementing observability or AIOps capabilities to improve monitoring, reduce alert noise, accelerate incident response, or provide predictive insights.

  • Experience with Fortra products such as Robot Alert, Robot Console, Compliance Monitor, Exit Point Manager, or comparable IBM i management and security tools.

  • Experience driving IBM i security, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and automated compliance initiatives.

  • Experience supporting mission-critical ERP applications running on IBM i.

  • Experience contributing to platform modernization strategies or roadmaps for IBM i and IBM Power environments.

Pay Range:

$92,600.00 - $154,400.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
