The Role:
The Lead Process Engineer - Paint provides technical leadership, regulatory compliance oversight, and day-to-day operational support for paint shop processes at Flint Assembly. This role serves as a subject matter leader for hazardous materials transportation, confined space compliance, filtration systems, gage calibration, and vendor/contractor coordination while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and operational performance. The position requires strong organizational skills, comfort working across shifts and departments, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners and external suppliers in a manufacturing paint shop environment.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Lead regulatory and compliance activities for dangerous goods transportation, ensuring CFR 49 compliance, current training/certification, and audit-ready documentation and processes.
- Serve as Confined Space Champion for the plant, overseeing gas meter calibration, permit documentation, KPI audits, and annual confined space reporting.
- Own gage calibration and instrumentation oversight, including scheduling and coordinating calibration for paint-related instruments, leak testers, and scales, and maintaining complete calibration records for audit compliance.
- Manage materials, filtration, and supplier coordination for paint shop filtration systems, maintaining supplier relationships, resolving supply issues, and supporting cost and quality targets.
- Provide people sponsorship and contractor oversight for embedded and contract personnel, ensuring alignment to plant safety, process expectations, training, and GM standards.
- Lead paint shop process control plans, troubleshooting and continuous improvement, partnering with maintenance, quality, and production teams to improve first-time quality, reduce defects/downtime, and participate in audits and performance reviews.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 3+ years of experience in paint operations, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of hazardous materials transportation regulations (CFR 49) and related compliance practices.
- Working knowledge of confined space regulations, documentation, and gage calibration systems, including audit and recordkeeping requirements.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple shifts and departments and maintain accurate records for compliance and audits.
- Comfort working directly with external suppliers and technical service providers, including managing orders, resolving issues, and aligning on cost and quality expectations.
- Must be able to work on a rotating/flexible shift (1st, 2nd or 3rd), as well as overtime and weekends, as needed.
What Can Give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- 3+ years of experience in paint operations, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Prior GM or automotive manufacturing experience in paint or closely related operations.
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or other related field.
- Familiarity with PS1 or similar systems for confined space and safety program management.
- Experience leading audits, compliance programs, or regulatory reporting in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and people sponsorship skills, with experience supporting or directing contract and embedded personnel.
