What you’ll do:

  • Partner with Product, Configuration, People Analytics, Engineering, IT, and other stakeholders to understand business challenges, uncover underlying needs, and translate complex or ambiguous requirements into scalable, user-centric solutions.
  • Own end-to-end technical delivery for integration and automation solutions—from discovery and architecture through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
  • Evaluate and recommend solutions across Workday and the broader enterprise technology ecosystem, balancing business value, user experience, scalability, maintainability, security, performance, and cost.
  • Architect and develop complex integrations using Workday Studio, Orchestrate, EIBs, Connectors, Reports-as-a-Service (RaaS), Workday Web Services, and REST APIs.
  • Design and build custom applications, APIs, and automation solutions using Workday Extend and technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Python, XML, XSLT, SOAP, and REST.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Workday APIs, advising on capabilities and limitations, authentication, security, business process dependencies, request and response structures, error handling, and API best practices.
  • Apply deep knowledge of Workday business processes, reporting, security, data architecture, and object relationships to design holistic solutions that extend beyond traditional integrations.
  • Partner with engineering and analytics teams on downstream data models, table structures, joins, and transformation logic that accurately represent Workday data and support scalable applications and reporting.
  • Lead technical assessments and identify opportunities to simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, optimize API consumption, and improve reliability and system performance.
  • Design and implement monitoring, logging, error handling, and alerting to deliver observable, maintainable, and resilient solutions.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing, with careful consideration of edge cases and downstream impacts.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes that prevent recurrence.
  • Drive technical project execution by managing dependencies, coordinating stakeholders, communicating risks and tradeoffs, and maintaining accountability for delivery timelines and outcomes.
  • Explore and apply emerging technologies—including AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, MCP, and API-driven architectures—to deliver more intelligent, flexible, and efficient People Technology solutions.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, design specifications, and knowledge-sharing practices that support maintainability, team effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep expertise in Workday integration technologies, reporting, business processes, security frameworks, and data architecture.
  • Advanced proficiency with Workday SOAP and REST APIs, including API behavior, request and response structures, authentication, error handling, and dependencies on business process configuration.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including API design, data structures, system architecture, integration patterns, and secure development practices.
  • Experience designing downstream data models and transformation logic for applications, analytics, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Workday Studio, Orchestrate, EIBs, Connectors, RaaS, Workday Extend, Workday Web Services, and REST APIs, along with Java, JavaScript, Python, XML, XSLT, SOAP, and REST.
  • Strong product mindset, with the ability to understand user needs, challenge assumptions, and prioritize solutions based on business impact and user experience.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills, including the ability to navigate ambiguity and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, curiosity, openness to feedback, and commitment to continuous improvement, including willingness to learn and apply emerging technologies and AI capabilities.
  • Ability to independently lead cross-functional initiatives and influence partners at all levels, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts and articulate tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to balance technical quality with business priorities, delivery timelines, and long-term maintainability
  • Experience working in Agile development environments and using project management tools such as Jira.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 5+ years of demonstrated Workday integration development experience using Workday’s integration tools (i.e., Reports-as-a-Service, Enterprise Interface Builder, Document Transformation, Connectors, Workday Studio, or similar)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years extensive experience working with the following Workday modules - Core HCM, Comp, Recruiting, Benefits, US Payroll, Absence Management & Time Tracking
