Position Overview:

The Learning & Development Specialist plays a key role in building employee competencies through the design, delivery, and continuous enhancement of training programs. This position is responsible for developing engaging learning content, facilitating instructor-led sessions, owning onboarding initiatives, and supporting LMS and learning operations to deliver impactful learning experiences across the organization.

This role is central to delivering the company’s new hire onboarding experience, Foundations, including facilitation of the multi-day onboarding program and ongoing improvement of the new hire journey.

Key Responsibilities 

Onboarding Program Ownership (Foundations)

  • Own the design, facilitation, and continuous improvement of the multi-day new hire onboarding program
  • Serve as the primary facilitator for core onboarding sessions (virtual and in-person)
  • Gather and analyze new hire feedback to improve effectiveness and engagement
  • Ensure onboarding content aligns with company values, compliance requirements, and role readiness

Content Development

  • Design and develop learning materials (eLearning, job aids, facilitator guides, presentations)
  • Apply instructional design best practices to create engaging, learner-centered experiences
  • Partner with subject matter experts to translate content into effective learning solutions
  • Update and maintain existing learning content

Learning Needs Analysis & Evaluation

  • Partner with HR and business leaders to identify learning needs through feedback, performance data, and stakeholder input
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using learner feedback and basic learning metrics
  • Recommend improvements to content and delivery based on data and business needs

Facilitation

  • Facilitate engaging, high-impact instructor-led training sessions (virtual and in-person) for diverse employee audiences
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment

Onboarding & Continued Competency Support

  • Coordinate and manage onboarding logistics and scheduling
  • Continuously improve onboarding materials and overall experience
  • Partner with HR and hiring managers to ensure a smooth new hire experience

LMS & Learning Operations

  • Upload and manage course content within the LMS
  • Track training completion and generate basic reports
  • Support troubleshooting for learners and managers
  • Maintain accurate learning records and data

    Expected Skills and Qualifications:

    • 2–4 years of experience in Learning & Development, Training, or a related field
    • Demonstrated experience independently facilitating training programs
    • Experience facilitating engaging training sessions (virtual and/or in-person)
    • Experience developing learning content (e.g., presentations, eLearning, job aids)
    • Strong communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
    • Experience managing projects or coordinating multiple workstreams
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Ability to learn internal databases and software systems

    • Strong facilitation and presentation skills (virtual and in-person)
    • Foundational knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory
    • Ability to adapt content for different audiences and simplify complex information into learner-friendly formats
    • Basic project coordination skills

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Familiarity with learning technologies and LMS platforms (e.g., Docebo, Articulate 360, Camtasia)

    Work Schedule / Location

    • Hybrid role based in Schaumburg, IL
    • Onsite three (3) days per week and remote two (2) days per week

    Travel

    • Occasional domestic travel up to 10%

      Pre-Employment Requirement: 

      • Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background check. This requirement is especially critical for safety-sensitive roles.

      The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $92,000. The actual pay will be determined based on factors such as location, experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to the base salary, employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package.
