Provide commercial legal support by drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts across various departments, while advising on risk and regulatory compliance.
IMC is looking for Legal Counsel to provide commercial legal support for contracts covering various departments including Trading, Technology, Compliance, Finance, Corporate, and Tax. This position will offer legal advice on a variety of matters, with its primary focus on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial arrangements related to trading activities for broker-dealers registered in various capacities and non-registered entities, as well as other related technology, exchange, platform, software, internal corporate, and general business agreements and arrangements.

- Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts, including trading, execution, rate, exchange, platform, software and technology agreements; consulting agreements; confidentiality agreements; corporate documentation; and other general business and legal agreements.
- Advise stakeholders of potential risks, including regulatory risks, in contractual areas and propose risk mitigation strategies. Ability to advise on corporate tax issues is a strong plus.
- Provide creative and legally sound solutions to ensure that projects keep moving forward to completion.
- Provide general advice on a wide variety of unique scenarios as they arise in the day-to-day conduct of IMC's business.
- Work with trading teams, business owners, and the procurement function to respond to various requests for commercial legal services.
Your Skills and Experience
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required, with strong academic credentials and active membership in good standing with the Illinois Bar.
- 8+ years of law firm or prior in-house experience in financial services industry preferred, with an understanding of proprietary trading firm operations and the U.S. financial services regulatory framework, including rules applicable to trading firms and broker-dealers.
- Demonstrated generalist mindset with intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn new areas quickly; ability to lead new initiatives from concept through successful completion.
- Proven ability to work independently and effectively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give advice that demonstrate an understanding of overall business objectives and the risks/rewards of each situation.
- Strong research and writing skills and a demonstrated ability and willingness to effectively and proactively engage in in-person communication are required.
- Must be willing to step into a project management role to bring all business owners and stakeholders together to ensure that projects remain on track and deadlines are being met.
