The Linux Administrator will manage Linux desktop environments, ensuring installations, configurations, and maintenance, while automating tasks with configuration management tools and scripts.
We're seeking an experienced Linux administrator to support the rollout and ongoing maintenance of our Linux desktop fleet, with a focus on configuration management, automation, and fleet operations.
RequirementsResponsibilities
- Perform Linux system installation, configuration, patching, and ongoing maintenance across physical and virtual desktops
- Implement and maintain SaltStack configurations to enforce system baselines and automate repeatable tasks
- Contribute to sprint-based engineering efforts focused on endpoint reliability, compliance, and lifecycle management
- Support incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across a large fleet of Linux systems
- Execute operational procedures for OS/software updates, re-imaging, and break/fix scenarios
- Participate in change management processes and maintain accurate technical documentation
- Collaborate with engineers and IT support teams to ensure endpoint compliance and functionality
- 6+ years of experience supporting large-scale Linux desktop environments in production settings
- Strong hands-on experience with Ubuntu/Debian Linux, including imaging, patching, and support
- Proficient in configuration management tools such as SaltStack, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
- Experience writing scripts in Bash and/or Python to automate common system tasks
- Familiarity with sprint-based or agile project work
- Experience with tools like Jira for task and incident tracking
- Clear communicator with strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Must be local to the Bay Area and able to work onsite at Foster City HQ at least 3 days per week
