This role will be working on our Quora product.

About the Team and Role:

Our small engineering team works on challenging problems every day. We have a culture that's rooted in constantly learning and improving, and our engineers are encouraged to think big and experiment with new ideas. Using continuous deployment, we quickly see our changes in the product and make fast iterations. Our engineers focus on creating polished products and writing high quality code by designing APIs and abstractions that are extensible and maintainable. Everyone on the engineering team has a huge impact on our product and our company.

As a member on the Ads ML team, you'll build deep learning and transformer based model architectures for ad candidate retrieval and ranking within our advertising platform. Your work will involve developing sophisticated bidding algorithms, and creating scalable ML systems that optimize ad selection. You'll also leverage large language models for brand safety detection and ad quality assessment, ensuring advertisers maintain brand integrity while users experience ads that meet the same quality standards as our core content.

Responsibilities:
  • Improve our existing Ads Recommendation systems using your expertise

  • Identify new opportunities to apply Machine Learning to different parts of the Quora Ads Product

  • Work with other engineers to implement algorithms and systems in an efficient way

  • Take end-to-end ownership of Machine Learning systems -- from data pipelines and training, to realtime prediction engine

Minimum Requirements:
  • Ability to be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)

  • A 2025 or Summer 2026 graduate with or pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field

  • Strong understanding of mathematical foundations of Machine Learning algorithms

  • Knowledge of Python or C++, or the ability to learn them quickly

  • A passion for learning and always improving yourself and the team around you

Preferred Requirements:
  • Previous software engineering experience via an internship, work experience or coding competition

  • Passion for Quora's mission and goals

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.

  • US candidates only: For US based applicants, the salary range is $107,360 - $152,900 USD + equity + benefits.

  • Canada candidates only: For Toronto and Vancouver based applicants, the salary range is $140,796 - $160,415 CAD + equity + benefits. For all other locations in Canada, the salary range is $131,409 - $149,720 CAD + equity + benefits.
