Manager, Ecosystem Development

PlayStation | San Mateo, CA (Hybrid) | Full-Time | Up to ~20% travel (domestic/international)

Overview

PlayStation partners with leading companies to offer high-quality peripherals and ecosystem hardware products that work smoothly with the PlayStation platform. We seek an ambitious Manager, Ecosystem Engineering to lead a compact, high-achieving team responsible for overseeing technical implementation, systems-level QA, and product quality for third-party hardware. This role secures outstanding compatibility, dependability, and an excellent user experience.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and strictly enforce technical policy and specifications for ecosystem partner products.
  • Lead engineering execution for a portfolio of partner hardware products from concept through launch and post-launch support.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between PlayStation and partner engineering teams, aligning on requirements, integration plans, schedules, and risk mitigation.
  • Assist with systems QA and product integrity activities for PlayStation 1st party hardware products, formulating ecosystem policy and technical specifications.
  • Take responsibility for systems QA strategy and product integrity, encompassing test planning, coverage, bug triage, root-cause analysis, and readiness reviews spanning hardware, firmware, and software domains.
  • Drive seamless platform integration across relevant PlayStation experiences, ensuring flawless connectivity, input/audio performance, stability, and interoperability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams (platform/system software, hardware, QA, program management, partner management, operations, legal/compliance, support) to deliver world-class launch-quality outcomes.
  • Build and scale processes, tools, and operating rhythms for partner engagement, validation, and managing blocking issues.
  • Hire, coach, and develop an expert team, setting clear priorities and execution standards.
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 2+ years of technical leadership and/or people management (or equivalent leadership scope).
  • Solid experience in Systems QA and product integrity for products involving intricate hardware, firmware, and software integration.
  • Experience working with external partners to successfully implement and ship consumer hardware products (co-development, platform ecosystem, licensing, or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of system-level integration topics is required. This includes embedded and firmware behaviors, drivers, and interfaces. Connectivity stacks such as USB, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi apply as needed. Performance and stability debugging are also part of this.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional execution across organizations and drive clarity in ambiguous, high-dependency environments.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to translate complex technical issues into clear plans and decisions for both internal and external collaborators.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with console ecosystems, consumer peripherals (audio/headsets, controllers/input, connectivity accessories), or interoperability programs.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing readiness, reliability planning, regulatory/certification considerations, and post-launch field quality processes.
  • Experience improving validation efficiency via automation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and scalable partner-facing test frameworks.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$207,300$310,900 USD
