ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, PAX is looking for a Manager of Embedded Systems (EE/HW) to lead the group responsible for design, engineering, debug, and validation of PAX hardware products.

This role is responsible for leading and developing modular embedded system architectures that are highly reusable and scalable across our product portfolio. This role will immediately manage a small group of Electrical and Hardware engineers. We need this role to be hands-on and highly technical - it’s a great opportunity to combine what you love about engineering with what you love about multiplying your skillset and coaching and managing others.

  • Lead the development and design of electronic systems, including hardware and firmware, for cannabis hardware products
  • Lead and manage a team of hardware and electrical engineers in the design, development, and production of our cannabis hardware products.  Manage, grow, and coach direct reports on technical issues and interactions, ensuring a psychologically safe and trusting environment to enable high degrees of collaboration
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, and software source code
  • Drive performance validation of internally and externally developed products.  This includes developing internal tools/fixtures needed to validate performance and reliability of products, core technologies, and batteries 
  • Drive best practices, rigorous design execution, to deliver innovative and high performing designs on schedule
  • Heavy collaboration with cross functional product and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate on embedded or PC-level software tools to control PCB test fixtures and development tools.
  • Create/execute verification and validation protocols.
  • Follow PAX Labs’ design control and documentation procedures

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years in consumer products and/or other product development
  • Deep knowledge of electronic hardware and firmware design, including PCB design, schematic capture, and programming languages such as C/C++ and Python
  • Strong track record of shipping products and managing them through their entire life cycle
  • Experience working with Asian manufacturing and supply chains
  • Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and data analytics skills

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:

  • Have seen multiple product cycles from start to finish and shipping consumer hardware at high volume.
  • Be a creative problem solver and make data-driven decisions.  
  • Have experience working with development partners in a JDM style engagement
  • Be hyper organized and you won’t hesitate to fix something that’s disorganized or broken. 
  • Have a natural tendency to identify inefficiencies and take action to resolve them.
  • Effectively lead and influence others, driving decisions cross-functionally across the org that enable your team or deliver on the best technical solution for the company.  
  • Practice servant leadership and realize it’s your first responsibility to unblock the team so they can move forward, while also focusing on coaching and mentoring them along the way.  
  • Have a passion for the cannabis industry and experience working with cannabis-related products is preferred

Education

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.

COMPENSATION

In addition to the benefits below, this role has a pay range between $175,000-205,000 and equity. The pay range represents what we believe, in good faith, this role will pay. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience, geographic location, and relevant education/training.
