Manage the Endpoint Engineering team and oversee the design and performance of desktop environments. Collaborate with teams to enhance reliability, security, and user experience.
Zoox is seeking a highly motivated and experienced IT Endpoint Engineering Manager to lead our dynamic Endpoint Engineering (also known as Client Platform Engineering) team. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing the engineering of desktop environments for Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu through central management tools, ensuring optimal performance, security, and user experience. The successful candidate will manage a team of 6 engineers, including VDI Engineers, and will play a key role in promoting the best possible employee experience and productivity levels across the company.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and manage the Endpoint Engineering team, setting clear objectives, evaluating performance, and facilitating professional development.
- Oversee the design, engineering, and evolution of desktop environments across Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu, ensuring adherence to Zoox standards for performance and stability.
- Oversee the lifecycle management for high-availability endpoints in critical operational environments (e.g., call centers, commercial operations centers), ensuring maximum reliability and stability within highly restrictive maintenance windows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that are reliable, secure, and scalable.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of comprehensive documentation, including standard operating procedures, configuration guides, and knowledge base articles.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in IT, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing technical teams.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing technical staff. Exceptional communication skills, with ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven expertise in engineering and managing desktop environments across multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, Ubuntu) using central management tools such as Jamf Pro, Microsoft Intune, or similar.
- Experience managing endpoint estates using modern configuration management tools (e.g., SaltStack, Puppet, Ansible) and applying GitOps practices for desired-state configuration and automated deployment.
- Familiarity with the full VDI lifecycle, from design and implementation to maintenance and optimization, with a focus on delivering a high-quality user experience. Experience with the Omnissa Horizon ecosystem is a plus.
