TRI’s Carbon Neutrality Department within our Human-Centered AI (HCAI) Division blends behavioral science, human-computer interaction research, and machine learning to understand, predict and enable carbon neutral behavior and to push the boundaries of human-centered science.


We are looking for a manager to lead an interdisciplinary team of researchers focus on innovating pathways to a carbon-neutral future through human-centered AI solutions. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage an interdisciplinary research team comprising experts in machine learning, behavioral science, and human-computer interaction research.
  • Drive the research agenda, aligning projects with the company’s strategic goals and commitment to actionable science.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment that encourages the development of human-centered AI solutions.
  • Lead all aspects of the design, development, and evaluation of research strategies that promote carbon neutrality.
  • Communicate research findings to internal and external partners, including technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of team members.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, carbon neutrality, and related topics.
  • Collaborate closely with HCAI and Carbon Neutrality leadership to inform and implement the research strategy of the department.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Sciences, Psychology, Behavioral Economics or equivalent. Ph.D. or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of total relevant experience with 3+ years of people management experience in cross-functional settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary research in these areas.
  • Strong understanding of human-centered AI principles and methodologies.
  • Proven ability to translate research findings into actionable strategies and solutions.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Proven leadership track record, including influential communication skills that inspire teammates, enrolls cross-functional teams, engages senior leadership, and delivers results.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $240K - $360K/year for California-based roles; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Note that TRI offers a generous benefits package (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave) and an annual cash bonus structure.
