Working under the direction of the Director, Media Operations, this role works in close daily coordination with the Media Operations and Awards Production teams to differentiate and align technical execution with operational and spatial logistics across all press-serving environments. Working in close collaboration with Communications leadership, internal Academy departments, production stakeholders, venue operations, and external vendors, the position ensures these spaces are operationally prepared, technically supported, and aligned with departmental priorities. Additionally, the role serves as a primary Communications technical liaison to Live TV and production engineering stakeholders.
The role also manages seasonal technical operations supporting credentialed media, media partners, broadcasting networks, official partners, and participating organizations across Academy events and productions. Responsibilities span transmission workflows, connectivity coordination, temporary infrastructure, media compounds, pool feed operations, and evolving broadcast and streaming support models. The position plays a key role in integrating technical operations with broader media logistics, operational planning, and live-event execution across Academy productions.
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Lead seasonal media production logistics and technical execution for Academy press-serving environments including the Interview Room, Photo Room, Virtual Press Room, media workspaces, winners-related media areas, media support spaces, and associated infrastructure.
  • Serve as the primary Communications operational liaison to Live TV production and technical stakeholders – working directly with the Domestic Press Technical Manager and other Technical Producers/Managers to align broadcast execution and engineering requirements with media needs.
  • Coordinate with Academy Events, Production, and venue operations teams regarding physical buildouts, staging, power, connectivity, signal routing, and vendor schedules (load-in/load-out, setup, and strike timelines).
  • Lead technical and logistical coordination for Pool Camera operations, managing setup windows, camera positioning, transmission workflows, switching coordination, and access workflows.
  • Take a leading role in organizing, managing, and executing the Domestic Press Broadcaster Walkthrough, translating physical and technical setups into operational guidance for Press.
  • In collaboration with Media Operations staff, Web Development, and the Academy Library team, oversee the end-to-end technical capture, logistics, and distribution for live press room transcription workflows.
  • Coordinate technical infrastructure for accessibility support services, specifically managing the technical workflows and feed requirements for ASL (American Sign Language) second-screen activities.
  • Support the implementation of evolving media models, including digital/social coverage, hybrid participation, streaming operations, and partner activations.
  • Manage live-event troubleshooting and operational escalation for press-serving environments, technical infrastructure, connectivity, and vendor operations during Academy events.
  • Develop and distribute technical materials, infrastructure documentation, media guide technical sections, setup communications, and post-event reconciliation documents/reports.

Required Competencies:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Broadcast Journalism, Media Production, Technical Theater, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in live event production, technical production, media logistics, broadcast environments, publicity operations, or related field.
  • Experience managing technical infrastructure and production support for large-scale media or press environments.
  • Familiarity with transmission workflows, connectivity systems, temporary infrastructure, vendor coordination, and event buildouts.
  • Strong project management, communication, and troubleshooting skills in fast-paced production settings.
  • Experience coordinating with production teams, photographers, journalists, media organizations, technical vendors, and venue stakeholders.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends during seasonal production periods.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Oscars, awards shows, or large-scale live events.
  • Experience with accessibility support services (ASL, closed captioning).

Required Vaccination: Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable. Exception: Medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture.
