The role involves optimizing manufacturing processes, leading automation strategies, managing capital projects, and developing a high-performing engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Systems Optimization
- Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure consistent product quality
- Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and other CI methodologies to drive measurable performance gains
- Develop and maintain process documentation including SOPs, control plans, PFMEAs, and work instructions
- Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to resolve bottlenecks and improve line reliability
Automation Strategy & Integration
- Lead the design, programming, and deployment of automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and vision systems
- Manage integration of new technologies into existing production lines with minimal disruption
- Oversee troubleshooting, upgrades, and lifecycle management of automated equipment
- Partner with IT and OT teams to ensure secure, scalable data connectivity and system interoperability
Project Management & Capital Execution
- Plan and execute capital projects related to manufacturing expansion, automation upgrades, and equipment installations
- Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource plans
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery
- Track project KPIs and report progress to senior leadership
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of manufacturing and automation engineers/technicians
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with operations, quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering and automation within industrial or high-volume production environments
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), robotics, and industrial control systems
- Proven track record of leading CI initiatives and delivering measurable improvements
- Experience with MES, SCADA, and ERP systems integration
- Experience with CAD systems (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
Preferred Skills
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)
- Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, predictive analytics)
- Familiarity with safety and environmental compliance standards (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, UL)
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Other
- Travel up to 75% of the time to LION North America sites
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
- 7+ years of experience managing facilities operations and delivering capital projects in industrial, manufacturing, or commercial settings
- Proven track record in budget development, cost control, and vendor management
- Strong understanding of mechanical/electrical systems, construction methods, and applicable codes and regulations
- Proficiency with CAD and facility management software; ERP system experience preferred
- Excellent communication (verbal & written), ability to negotiate, and ability to engage with all stakeholders
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Skills
- Process Improvement: Lean/CI certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent)
- Sustainability: Knowledge of frameworks (e.g., LEED, Energy Star)
- Compliance: Familiarity with safety/environmental programs
- Experience working in highly regulated industries or specialized manufacturing environments
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Highly flexible and able to react constructively and with a positive attitude to multiple demands, shifting priorities, change, and unexpected events.
- Ability to work in a normal office environment
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which could include loud noise, dust/dirt, machines with moving parts, and electrical hazards.
- Ability to comply with PPE requirements or other policies related to the specific work area
