As the Sensor Calibration Manager, you will play a critical role in the development and reliability of our purpose-built autonomous vehicles. You will lead a specialized team responsible for ensuring the precise calibration of our core sensor suite, including lidar, radar, and camera systems for factory, service depot, and online. By developing rigorous testing protocols, system diagnostics, analyzing complex sensor data, and optimizing sensor performance across diverse environmental conditions, you will ensure our perception systems deliver the accuracy required for safe and effective autonomous operation.
Your leadership will directly impact Zoox's mission to provide the next generation of mobility-as-a-service. Operating at the intersection of robotics and advanced hardware engineering, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional groups—including vehicle engineering, field support team, operation team, and systems teams—to overcome complex integration and execution challenges.
Your team's work in maintaining robust and accurate sensor calibration is foundational to enabling our vehicles to safely navigate urban environments and bringing our fully autonomous fleet to market.
In this role, you will...
Build and support a factory, service depot, and online calibration system for all autonomous driving sensors, including camera, lidar, and radar
Build scalable and sustainable architecture and software to meet requirements from factory production capacity, service depot maintenance, and online correction use cases
Work cross-functionally to shape scalable roles and responsibilities to optimize calibration efficiency and cost on both the manufacturing and service sides
Work on the next-gen auto-calibration system to support online sensor calibration capability
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: BS, MS, or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with 5+ years of industry experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
- Subject Matter Expertise: Prior working experience in calibration systems from OEM or Tier one. Strong understanding of automobile sensor calibration in factory manufacturing, dealership, and online setup. Experience with sensor calibration product life-cycle development. Deep technical knowledge of intrinsic and extrinsic calibration methodologies for complex, multi-modal sensor suites, specifically encompassing cameras, lidars, and radars.
- Leadership Track Record: Proven experience managing, mentoring, and scaling high-performing engineering teams, with a strong ability to guide technical projects from initial research and development through to testing and production deployment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong software engineering fundamentals with proficiency in C++ and Python, coupled with a solid foundation in linear algebra, 3D geometry, optimization algorithms, localization, and computer vision
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate seamlessly with hardware, perception, and systems engineering teams to resolve complex, system-level integration challenges.
