A Little About You

As our Managing Editor, you will be the engine of the Yahoo Finance newsroom, running a disciplined operation while encouraging storytelling that makes markets, companies, and the personalities around them come alive for a modern audience. You are a seasoned editorial leader who understands that markets are driven by people and culture. You will oversee daily newsroom operations and ensure consistent, rapid, high-quality editorial output across platforms. Working closely with the Head of Content and editorial leadership, you will translate editorial priorities into daily coverage, manage newsroom workflows, and guide teams producing reporting, analysis, newsletters, and multi-platform storytelling. In this senior leadership role, you will also find ways to modernize our newsroom, identifying opportunities where AI-driven efficiencies can free up your team to focus on the high-impact, original content that our audience values most.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Yahoo Finance newsroom and ensure timely and accurate coverage of markets, business, the economy, policy, and personal finance.

  • Set high-level coverage priorities and manage publishing workflows so the newsroom operates efficiently and with clear focus.

  • Coordinate coverage during major market events, breaking news, and important business developments while maintaining strong editorial judgment and accuracy.

  • Provide leadership and direction for a major part of the editorial organization through a team of managers and senior editors.

  • Foster a culture of innovation by identifying and implementing AI-driven tools that keep editors and writers current, streamline repetitive tasks, and free the team to focus on high-impact original content.

  • Support reporters and editors in developing storytelling instincts that produce business coverage that is both smart and human, ensuring complex financial topics feel understandable and relevant.

  • Partner with the Head of Content to translate editorial priorities into long-term coverage plans and multi-platform reporting assignments.

  • Partner with product, design, video, and social teams to ensure stories are presented effectively across all Yahoo Finance platforms.

  • Set clear expectations for the newsroom regarding the responsible use of AI-augmented tools, ensuring that human editorial integrity and accuracy remain the top priority.

Basic Qualifications

  • Fifteen or more years of experience in journalism or financial media, including significant leadership experience as a manager of managers.

  • Experience managing editors and reporters in a fast paced newsroom environment.

  • Deep understanding of markets, business news, the economy, and personal finance.

  • Strong news judgment and a track record of developing recognizable editorial franchises or recurring features.

  • Experience running large-scale daily editorial operations and coordinating coverage during major news events.

  • Ability to use audience insights and analytics to inform strategic editorial decisions.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to operate in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.

Preferred Responsibilities/Qualifications

  • Experience leading editorial teams through digital transformation or significant organizational change.

  • Experience with the use of LLMs to assist in the content research and analytics.

The compensation for this position ranges from $150,015.00 - $326,390.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
