Job Description

The Linux Foundation is seeking a Marketing Communications Manager II, Strategic Open Source Marketing to lead execution and coordination of high-impact marketing initiatives across multiple open source projects. This role is ideal for a dynamic, self-directed professional who excels in fast-paced, remote environments and has a proven track record in developer-focused content management, campaign execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will lead strategic marketing efforts, partner closely with internal and external stakeholders, and oversee performance reporting across 4–6 key projects. You’ll serve as a key liaison to project leadership and help shape program-level strategies through expert communication, marketing operations, and agile leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategic Collaboration

  • Lead data-driven  content development and integrated marketing efforts for 4–6 open source projects, ensuring alignment with organizational and project-level goals.
     

  • Act as strategic partner to Project Directors, steering cross-functional initiatives and facilitating implementation of key marketing decisions.
     

  • Represent project and marketing strategy in stakeholder meetings, synthesizing insights and guiding action plans with clarity and confidence.
     

Marketing Operations & Content Performance

  • Manage content calendars mapped to campaign milestones and stakeholder engagement objectives.
     

  • Execute email marketing, digital advertising, and social media campaigns using HubSpot and other modern martech platforms.
     

  • Monitor and analyze performance across all marketing channels; optimize workflows and report content engagement insights.
     

Event Promotion & Brand Visibility

  • Drive project presence at key events; make strategic recommendations for maximizing event ROI.
     

  • Align content promotion with event schedules, launches, and technical milestones to support growth, awareness, and engagement goals.
     

Team Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Mentor junior marketing staff and program coordinators, modeling self-management and organizational best practices.
     

  • Lead and facilitate meetings across virtual teams globally, encouraging agile decision-making and solution-oriented approaches.
     

  • Promote a culture of excellence, positivity, and continuous improvement within the team and cross-functional engagements.
     

  • Leverage AI tools to drive efficiency, productivity and innovation within the marketing organization. 

Budget & Stakeholder Management

  • Oversee related project budgets, manage vendor relationships, and make purchases on behalf of projects as needed.

  • Communicate regularly with clients, sponsors, and project committees; provide executive-level reporting and cross-functional coordination support.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree required.
     
  • 6-7 years of progressive marketing or program management experience in a technical or open source environment.
     
  • HubSpot certification and demonstrated success in content marketing, social media, email, and digital advertising.
     
  • Strong knowledge of the open source ecosystem and how to effectively engage technical communities.
     
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
     
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 1–4 times per year.
     
  • Composed, adaptable, and thrives under pressure with a flexible, collaborative mindset.
