Job Title: MBA Intern – Data Center Power & Energy Storage Strategy
Location: Burlingame, CA (Hybrid)
Reports To: VP of Business Development
Department: Commercial
Duration: 3-6 months
Timing: Part-time starting March 1st – Summer; full-time starting Summer
Role Overview: We’re seeking an MBA intern to help us evaluate how next-generation data centers will meet their growing power and reliability needs — and where a 4+ hour sodium-ion BESS could play a role. The intern will conduct market, technical, and financial research to map opportunities for both front-of-the-meter, behind-the-meter and hybrid deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Map the power ecosystem of existing and next generation data centers — MW demand, load profiles, and growth regions.
- Differentiate front-of-the-meter vs. behind-the-meter deployments, identifying hybrid models in development.
- Assess use cases for 4+ hour duration energy storage in data-center power systems (synchronous loads, reliability, curtailment mitigation, grid services, etc).
- Evaluate economic and regulatory drivers shaping energy strategies for data centers in key markets.
- Recommend where Peak’s sodium-ion storage could deliver the most value within evolving data-center power / energy system design, substantiating through technoeconomic and financial modeling.
- Facilitate business development with potential customers and partners including hyper-scalers, data center developers and other power and data center ecosystem players.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current MBA student with strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in energy transition or digital infrastructure, and comfort with quantitative market, technoeconomic and financial modeling.
- Strong ability to translate technical and economic advantages into effective presentations for customers and partners.
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally with Peak’s ESS engineering and Sales teams.
- Background in energy, data centers, infrastructure, or tech strategy preferred, engineering degree is a plus.
