MECHANICAL INTEGRATION & TEST ENGINEER

Mesh Optical Technologies was founded on the belief that optical photons will be at the center of advanced technologies in the coming century. Making advanced technology ubiquitous means building at scale, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Mesh.

We are seeking a Mechanical Integration & Test Engineer to own the mechanical integration of machines, tooling, fixtures, and workstations across our production lines and development labs. Integration & Test Engineers at Mesh must have a working knowledge of design, manufacturing, and test operations across their domain. A successful engineer on this team demonstrates strong engineering intuition, critical thinking, and comfort working under ambiguous requirements with minimal oversight.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the mechanical integration of production equipment, tooling, fixtures, and workstations into high-volume manufacturing lines
  • Lead mechanical bring-up, debug, and ramp of new and modified production cells, resolving integration issues across mechanical, structural, and thermal boundaries
  • Define and maintain system-level mechanical interfaces between tools, fixtures, material handling systems, and factory infrastructure
  • Design, build, and qualify test fixtures, workholding, and mechanical hardware interfaces used for qualification, validation, and manufacturing
  • Evaluate proposed designs for manufacturability and mechanical integration, providing feedback on assembly sequence, access, tolerance stackups, and fixturing requirements
  • Develop and refine assembly procedures, integration sequences, and mechanical validation checklists based on build experience and lessons learned
  • Enable day-to-day execution of the mechanical integration and test flow on the production floor
  • Evaluate nonconformances to determine root cause and drive corrective action and system improvements
  • Maintain mechanical configuration of production lines, including tracking fixture revisions, tooling changes, and equipment modifications
  • Interface with both engineers and technicians to optimize manufacturing, assembly, and automation workflows

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of hands-on mechanical design, assembly, test, or manufacturing experience (internships, co-ops, and substantive project experience qualify)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T
  • CAD proficiency (NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
  • Strong hands-on skills and comfort building, debugging, and modifying hardware in factory or lab environments
  • Demonstrated engineering intuition, critical thinking, and comfort with ambiguity
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience integrating multi-station production lines, factory automation systems, or complex electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, or mechanical test hardware
  • Experience with precision mechanical assemblies or optomechanical systems
  • Familiarity with material handling systems, robotic pick-and-place, or automated alignment equipment
  • Experience writing assembly procedures, test plans, and providing go/no-go judgment and rationale
  • Documentation and configuration management experience in a production environment
  • Scripting or data analysis experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
  • Experience in a production environment with high attention to build quality and process discipline

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Mechanical Integration & Test Engineer: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Title and base salary are determined on a case by case basis commensurate with experience and merit.

In addition to base salary, compensation for this role includes:

  • Eligibility for long-term incentives including company stock options and discretionary bonuses awarded for exceptional achievements.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance with significant cost covered by the company for yourself and dependents.
  • Paid parental leave and flexible PTO (3 weeks accrued vacation and 10 company holidays per year).
  • 401(k) retirement plan access.
  • Relocation assistance to sunny Los Angeles.
