The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking Systems Engineers (Mid-Level) to join the team in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will design and develop state-of-the-art satellite systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil and/or national security programs. As system engineers we apply common products, processes, and tools across subsystems in pursuit of programmatic objectives. Our team works with Commercial, Government, and Proprietary Customers in the development and deployment of next-generation technologies and systems in space. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide high impact, creative solutions to complex technical problems, the ability to work as part of a large team, and the ability to provide critical support and independent review of the work of teammates.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Works collaboratively across subsystems within the space segment to apply common products, processes, and tools to plan, design, develop, and verify complex spacecraft systems across the lifecycle
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Performs various analyses to optimize the total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Responsible for identifying unassigned scope and ensuring it gets properly distributed
  • Participates in the identification and resolution of cross-functional technical issues
  • Participate or lead system and segment level trades, including technical, cost, schedule aspects
  • May lead space segment level duties such as Risk, Issue and Opportunity (RIO) Board or Engineering Review Board (ERB)
  • Ensures contractual compliance by integrating the statement of work (SOW) and technical specification into the IPT workflow
  • Participates in the creation of the requirements and model-based system engineering infrastructures (e.g., DOORS, CAMEO) and leads efforts to allocate and derive performance and functional requirements trace their flow down to lower levels
  • Forecasts and tracks requirements compliance activities to verify compliance and satisfy reporting obligations with the customer
  • May participate in the generation of responses to Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) from the customer
  • Participate in the planning and execution of space system engineering events (e.g., Segment Requirement Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews, development and production cycle developmental gates) and applies Boeing command media to ensure they satisfy all entrance/exit criteria
  • Represents space system engineering in events led by other IPTs (e.g., Manufacturing and Test Readiness Reviews)
  • Supports the program in additional roles that evolve with the program life cycle. This may include supporting the Assemble, Integration and Test (AI&T) IPT as either a test engineer or in an oversight role to help track and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). This may also include performing a similar role at the Launch Site or in the Mission Operations.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience with systems engineering fundamentals and aspects of product life cycle and its events (i.e. SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience in satellite system design, development or test
  • Work with customers, program office, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Mid-Level, level 3: Typically, 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range (Mid-Level - Level 3): $119,850 - $162,150
