About Us: Straight Arrow is fearlessly dedicated to exposing the hard truths in the stories that are dividing Americans today. We prize stories that connect to our audiences’ daily lives. Check us out at www.san.com and on the Straight Arrow mobile app.

Straight Arrow is building a different kind of news company: one that helps people understand the world without telling them what to think.

Through fact-based reporting, transparent sourcing, and multiple perspectives, we help audiences cut through the noise and stay informed. Our newsletters are among the most important ways we build trust with readers, creating a direct relationship that is personal, useful, and habit-forming.

We're looking for a Newsletter Editor to lead the editorial voice, content strategy, and daily execution of our growing newsletter portfolio.

The Role

This role sits within the Audience & Marketing team and serves as a critical bridge between Audience, Marketing, and Content.

You'll own the daily production and writing of Unbiased Updates, our flagship newsletter, while editing and optimizing our growing portfolio of topical subscriber-exclusive newsletters, including Media Miss, Health(y) Discourse, and Confidential Informant.

The ideal candidate is equal parts editor, curator, audience strategist, and newsletter operator. You should have strong news judgment, a deep understanding of what makes readers engage with journalism, and a passion for creating newsletter experiences that readers genuinely look forward to opening.

You'll help determine not only which stories deserve attention each day, but how those stories should be packaged, contextualized, tested, and presented to maximize reader value and engagement.

What You'll DoEditorial Curation & Writing
  • Write and produce the daily Unbiased Updates newsletter, which deploys in the early morning.
  • Use strong news judgment to identify and prioritize the stories most relevant to our newsletter audience each day.
  • Ensure our newsletters reflect the Straight Arrow ecosystem, helping readers understand not only the biggest story of the day, but the related stories that add context and value.
  • Develop recurring editorial features, such as editor's picks, story roundups, and "what you should catch up on" sections.
  • Write newsletter copy that feels personal, conversational, and distinctly Straight Arrow.
  • Refine and optimize headlines, story descriptions, and promotional language to increase engagement while maintaining editorial integrity.
  • Ensure every newsletter reflects a clear, consistent brand voice.
Editing & Content Strategy
  • Edit weekly newsletters written by subject matter experts and reporters, including Media Miss, Health(y) Discourse, and Confidential Informant.
  • Ensure newsletters maintain high editorial standards, strong reader value, and consistent presentation.
  • Work closely with content leaders and writers to strengthen newsletter storytelling, structure, and audience appeal.
  • Identify opportunities to surface additional Straight Arrow’s reporting and create deeper pathways into our journalism.
Audience Growth & Engagement
  • Partner closely with Audience, Marketing, and Content leaders to align newsletter strategy with company goals.
  • Use audience insights to shape content decisions, newsletter structure, and reader journeys.
  • Develop strategies to increase open rates, click-through rates, engagement, and subscriber retention.
  • Regularly test subject lines, content placement, headlines, calls-to-action, and newsletter formats.
  • Help build newsletters that strengthen reader loyalty and reinforce the Straight Arrow brand.
Newsletter Operations & Analytics
  • Build, schedule, and deploy newsletters through Braze.
  • Own the newsletter production workflow from editorial planning through final send.
  • Monitor newsletter performance and develop actionable recommendations based on data.
  • Use Braze reporting to analyze metrics including opens, clicks, engagement patterns, and subscriber behavior.
  • Partner with Audience and Marketing teams to establish testing frameworks and newsletter KPIs.
  • Maintain newsletter landing pages and web experiences to ensure a seamless reader experience across channels.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in newsletters, audience development, digital journalism, content strategy, or a related field.
  • Exceptional news judgment and a strong understanding of the daily news cycle.
  • Proven ability to curate coverage and identify the stories audiences care most about.
  • Outstanding editing and writing skills, with a talent for creating copy that feels personal, approachable, and engaging.
  • Experience developing newsletter strategies that balance editorial priorities with audience needs.
  • Experience working within Braze or similar email marketing and customer engagement platforms.
  • Strong understanding of newsletter testing methodologies and performance optimization.
  • Comfort using data to inform editorial and audience decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders in a fast-moving newsroom environment.
  • Experience collaborating across editorial, audience, and marketing functions.
  • Availability to start early in the day. The approximate start time each day will be 6 am ET.
You'll Thrive In This Role If You...
  • Have great instincts for what makes a story worth clicking.
  • Can spot connections between stories and create meaningful editorial packages.
  • Think like both a journalist and a marketer.
  • Love using audience data to refine content and improve performance.
  • Enjoy balancing strategy and execution.
  • Believe newsletters should feel like a trusted conversation with readers, not simply a list of links.
